YES! Alumni Spotlight

We recently caught up with Karin Davey, an alumna of the YES! team at Mankato West High School from 2012-2014. While on the YES! team, Karin and her team members devised and implemented a number of projects, including working to get the school cafeteria to switch from disposable Styrofoam lunch trays to reusable ones. Karin notes, "we had a lot of fun with that project, even though it was quite a lot of work. We saved all the (rather disgusting) trays for a week and stacked them up the side of building to show just how much trash was generated". Read more about the skills the Karin gained through her involvement in YES!, the influence that YES! has had on her path after graduation from high school, and her favorite aspects of YES!

Karin is thankful for the ability to participate in YES! and reflected, "I wish that I had understood how significant YES! and YES! style programs can be while I was a part of it. I thought it was pretty neat, but now I have a better grasp the impact YES! projects have, both on the youth involved in implementation and the wider community".

YES! Coach Wins Award

Devon Vojtech, YES! coach for the Forest Lake Area High School YES! team, was honored with the Minnesota Association for Environmental Education (MAEE) Formal Educator Award after being nominated by one of her former students. MAEE notes "after seeing students interested in climate action, Devon revived the Environmental Club that had been absent at the high school for eight years. The club now participates as a YES! Team where student chosen projects focus on waste reduction with an increase in recycling, a pollinator garden at our school, and volunteer opportunities within the community".

We are proud to have such a wonderful educator as part of our group of excellent YES! coaches!

Say YES! to a new look in April

As we celebrate over 10 years of empowering youth to make a difference for their future, their communities, and the earth, we are working on a new look. Get ready for the launch of our new look just in time for Earth Day. We'll be unveiling this look on April 20th, 2018!
