We are celebrating 10 years in this beautiful building!

News from the Director
Dear Friends,

Most of us didn't even have cell phones!  It was the year 2000-the start of a new millennium-and the year Kingswood Youth Center (KYC) opened its doors!  The grand opening marked the culmination of a community vision.During the 2019-2020 school year, the KYC will celebrate the 20th anniversary of our service to local youth and the 10th anniversary of our move to the KYC's beautiful Center Street location! This important community tradition of serving local teens would not have been possible and cannot continue without the support and generosity of our community.

The KYC is a culmination of the hard work and generosity of countless community stakeholders. Initiated by the Rotary Club of Wolfeboro, the KYC was a proactive solution to the reality that our community lacked positive opportunities for teenagers to socialize and make productive use of their out-of-school hours. The original KYC vision has flourished for nearly two decades thanks to our community's high esteem for youth.

Over 10 years ago, community members joined forces, making possible the purchase of land and the construction of a brand new facility, which opened its doors in October 2009. The spirt of the KYC vision and the needs of local youth prompted subsequent expansions including the development of an integrated outdoor fitness area, bouldering wall, walking trail, and the addition of summer programs and BTAS! (beyond the after school). The KYC programs are offered after school, during school vacations, and in the evening.   A recently launched one-to-one mentoring program titled Club 121, meets during the school day.

The needs addressed by the KYC are ever-present in our community. Well over half of the KYC's participants reside at or below the Federal Poverty Level. All teens need support and nurturing to emerge successfully as our community's future leaders. Our goals are reached through programs including career and post-secondary school exploration, life skills instruction, fitness and recreation, and cooking and nutrition classes. KYC programs emphasize substance misuse prevention, team building and leadership, community service, and more.

We are asking you to consider being a part of the KYC's vision by making a tax-deductible contribution in support of our vital services. The KYC vision would never have taken hold without the support of our community.

There are many ways a donation can help the KYC continue meeting the growing needs of our community's youth population. The vision depends on your support. The KYC is a 501(c) 3 organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

Sincerely,
The KYC Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers and Youth Members

Best Regards,

Celebrating 10 years on Center Street!

The beautiful facility on Center Street, which you have come to know as "The KYC," just turned 10!  Community members are often surprised when we remind them that the KYC first opened its doors 10 years ago in October 2009.  In October, we celebrated this important milestone.  Our event was well attended, with diverse groups of community members joining us to celebrate our success in our current home.  KYC members delighted an audience with a presentation about the history of the KYC.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the KYC over the past decade!

The KYC members presented a skit about the history of the KYC. They did a great job!
We had a wonderful turnout at the event!
Community members mingled, ate, and enjoyed browsing the many displays set up around the Center!
Second Annual
Kingswood Spook Center

The KYC hosted a "Spook Center," for the second year in a row. And for the second year in a row, the turnout was amazing! Families filtered in and out through the evening, enjoying Halloween themed games and activities run by KYC members! Everyone left with prizes and some even left with freshly painted faces, acquired at the Face Painting Booth. There was a coloring contest, cupcake decorating, and many fun games! Thanks to everyone who joined us, and to our KYC members for running such a fun event! We can't wait to do it again next year!

Spin the pumpkin and win a prize!
Even a dinosaur participated in the coloring contest!
Donut-on-a-String! Challenging and delicious!
Roll an apple to knock over the candy corn bowling pins!
Yum! Donuts!
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is a national substance misuse prevention campaign that uses a red ribbon as a reminder of the dangers of substances and the importance of making good choices.

Each year, the KYC uses Red Ribbon Week as another opportunity to help teens stay drug free.  The KYC's tradition is to create a red ribbon visual that reflects the annual campaign slogan and our students' reasons for choosing to be drug free.  This year's slogan was: "Send a Message.  Stay Drug Free."
Send A Message- Stay Drug Free!
Community Outreach

KYC members have been working hard to give back to the community.

We were involved in The Town of Wolfeboro's Trick-or-Treat, handing out cake, hot chocolate, and candy and providing entertainment (juggling!).

The KYC has also been working on  "Project Linus," an effort through which we will make 15-20 tied fleece blankets to contribute to Hope House, the emergency housing for families in Wolfeboro. The blankets will be presented to Hope House residents throughout the colder months. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to Hope House's mission in this small way!

A Thanksgiving Feast at the KYC!

The Thursday before Thanksgiving, the KYC enjoyed our annual Thanksgiving meal. We had a large turn-out of hungry teenagers. As teens walked through the doors, they were greeted with the smells of roasting turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and more! We all shared something we were thankful for. Many members shared they were thankful for their friends, their families, food, and... the KYC!

The KYC wants all of our supporters, and our KYC members, to know that we are incredibly thankful for them.  We couldn't do what we do without all of you!

Happy Thanksgiving!
We all have a lot to be thankful for!

BTAS!
(Beyond The After School!)

This year the KYC is offering 150 hours of "BTAS!" programing outside of our after-school program. These programs are hosted in the evening, during school vacations, and on weekends! Check out some of our recent BTAS! programs below!

Campfire night! We enjoyed a cookout and campfire games!

We visited the Pittsfield Youth Workshop's afterschool program!

"Science Cafe..." an evening of trivia, experiments and learning!

Game Night! A relaxed evening of group games.
