5 YEARS CELEBRATING
GREAT COLORADO WOMEN
The Hall is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating and preserving the history of the accomplishments of past and present Colorado Women.
Women’s contributions and accomplishments have been often ignored by business, the media and educators. When, in fact, for nearly 2 centuries, Colorado women and their splendid achievements are stories that must be told. We do this through an Induction ceremony held every two years as well as events including our Inductees held in Denver and around the state.
Thirty-five years of honoring great women with a connection to Colorado was the vision and dream of our founder M. L. Hanson.
By founding the CWHF, she ensured that women’s contributions would be recognized.

March is Women’s History Month
Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the president to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”

Reprinted from the National History Day in Colorado February Newsletter
Rhiannon Szobody is an eighth grader at Broomfield Heights Middle School. When she began looking for topic ideas for this year's theme "Breaking Barriers in History", she was searching for a topic with two things: 1) Szobody wanted to research a local, Colorado History topic, and 2) she wanted to explore a project on women and gender barriers.
Szobody decided on the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame, and in her quest for primary sources, reached to to the founder of the Hall of Fame, M.L. Hanson, for an interview. Hanson was not just willing, but excited to be interviewed, and Szobody cited Hanson and the experience as incredible.

The Dragon Within...
If you are able to attend the March 18
th
CWHF Induction Ceremony, you are in for a treat! For the first time, we will have a performance by Emmy-award winning musician Lisa Downing.
This performance of “The Dragon Within” represents the grit, grace, and inspiration provided by each of the amazing Colorado women honored in tonight’s event, performed by C4 Dancers.
This original composition is a symbolic acknowledgment of the immense feminine power that is celebrated by the class of 2020 with the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame this evening.
As you watch the dancers complement this original music, you may recognize your own struggles and victories that we all face as women in the illustrative and graceful movements of the C4 Dancers. The dance performance that accompanies the music is produced and directed by Princess Wallace, choreographed by Davry Ratcliffe and performed by the C4 Pro Dancers.

Celebrating 127 Years of Women's Right to Vote in Colorado
|

Women's Right to Vote
The year 2020 may be the Centennial of the 19th Amendment granting U.S. women the right to vote, but Colorado women actually blazed the trail and started voting 27 years earlier in 1893. Colorado was the first state to grant women the right to vote. Priscilla Walker, Colorado Women's Hall of Fame (CWHF) Western Slope board member, is making several presentations on the other side of the divide.

Like every nonprofit organization, funding is our life blood. While CWHF hasn’t been consistent about its end of year fundraising campaign, we are getting better at advance planning and articulating a compelling case to give.
In 2019, so many of you were very generous and participated in our campaign. We are grateful! Our theme continues to be
Inspiring the Next Generation.
To that end, CWHF has launched new educational programs to inform and inspire girls and boys between the ages of 10 and 18 with the stories of the contributions and accomplishments of women in Colorado.

Watch for CWHF's Annual Events
|
|
Two years ago, during the CWHF annual strategic planning offsite, it was evident that in order to fully realize our mission, the organization needed to increase awareness throughout Colorado, tell the stories of our amazing inductees, and increase annual donations. As a Volunteer Board, we determined the best way to accomplish this would be through specific targeted events that allow us to celebrate and honor the wonderful women of the Hall in ways that inspire audiences to Aspire Higher to realize their dreams.
Last year, we held our inaugural “Great Colorado Women Stories” event before a capacity crowd, leaving our guests wanting to learn more about our Inductees. This event also produced much-needed donations and “planted the seed” for future events. Our fall “Women in STEM” event sold out weeks in advance and ignited a fire in Denver women/men to learn more about us.

Meet Our Newest Member of the CWHF Board

Jill Cassidy
The Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame is proud to introduce you to our newest member of the Board, Jill Anne Cassidy. She brings to the Hall her charismatic innovative driven style to the board. She is a dedicated sales professional in the IT world where she has managed large projects and proposals that inspire teamwork and consistency. She grew up in Ohio, got her bachelor’s at the University of Utah in Psychology. She is a proud mother of two sons and has a two year old grandson. She also likes a good round of golf, yoga, and her new craze is a workout called Board30. She is proud to call Colorado her home for the last 37 years.

In order to preserve and foster the memory of this woman who has left a legacy for us all, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association (CWBA) began presenting the Mary Lathrop Award in 1991 and has made an annual presentation each year since. The CWBA gives the Mary Lathrop Award to an outstanding female attorney who has enriched the community through her legal and civic activities.

Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame volunteer, Jill Wright, recently had a private tour of the Grand County Historical Association Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum, which features many exhibits about CWHF Laureate, Emily Warner, (2002) America’s first female airline captain. Colorado historian and museum volunteer, Dave Lively of Lively Tours and Talks, shared many unique aviation history stories. To learn more about the museum
