Besides the FF/EMS and 9-1-1 operations training (currently funded in Missouri and South Dakota), the Disability Education and Awareness for Municipalities (DEAM) and Safety Awareness Training serve to educate municipalities and residents with disabilities on the Americans with Disabilities Act and how to work with first and emergency responders, respectively. The programs are open to anyone. Register below.

The
Town of Amherst (NY) Police Department
is piloting Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) through support from Erie County (NY) to pilot the American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter mobile device for all patrols. Niagara University's First Responder Disability Awareness Training program was the catalyst to bring all the organizations together.
Western New York Deaf Access Services
(WNY DAS) was the main contributor to the Deaf/Hard of Hearing content in FRDAT, and trained in conjunction with FRDAT the entire 154 police officer force. WNY DAS also offers VRI on a national basis. Amherst PD was identified based on their progressive response to law enforcement education and an understanding of the need for this training.

Mental Health and De-escalation Training for Law Enforcement Professionals
This training program stems from a program that was originally developed at the University of Alberta, Department of Psychiatry, to advance the mental health training of police officers.
It proved overwhelmingly successful, showing increases in police mental health awareness, communication, de-escalation and empathy skills as well as an increase in police efficiency and a decrease in number of use-of-force occurrences.
