A New Look

This is the second issue of the Emeritus Center Newsletter to use Constant Contact. It is a more streamlined and concise format than our old PDF-style issues, and is much easier to navigate with a smart phone or other mobile device. Did you miss one of our speakers in 2022? You’ll find a chronological listing of all our speakers for each semester on our website.

President Rodriguez Speaks to the Emeriti

President Havidan Rodriguez visited the Emeritus Center on November 28, 2022 to brief us on the University's recent accomplishments and challenges. Highlights included continued success with student diversity and inclusion and a new $75 million initiative in Artificial Intelligence (AI). For a summary of his talk click HERE. Emeritus Center Helps to Sponsor Panel at Book Festival

The NYS Writers Institute hosted the 5th annual Albany Book Festival on September 17, 2022, and it included a panel discussion with Emeritus Professors Eugene Garber and Ronald Berger. They were joined by two other faculty authors and shared their writing and teaching experiences. Click HERE for a summary of the Festival. The panel was funded in part by a special award from the Emeritus Center. This new program extends our Three Voices grants to include applications from academic and administrative units of the University, and is described on our website.

The internet is critical in our daily lives but was only first available to the public in 1985. You probably don't know that NYS was important in its development. Three Voices Grants for 2022-23

Our Three Voices program awards small grants to help the emeriti continue their missions of teaching, research, and service after retirement. In 2022 we made five awards totaling more than $8,000. The topics ranged from urban planning to Franco-American French to organic chemistry. Click HERE for a complete list.

University at Albany's Collins Fellow and Professor Emeritus in Art History Roberta Bernstein was named a Chevalier (Knight) of the National Order of the Legion of Honor, France's highest award for outstanding service in a military or civilian capacity. The award recognizes her substantial achievements as an author, professor, curator and art historian.
