This photo was taken in 1977, showing the first customers already in the marina while the access road (Reed Point Way) and the parking lot were still under construction.
The Pile driver shown was the last gasoline powered rig that Fraser River Pile and Dredge owned. Unfortunately, it blew up before finishing Reed Point Marina, killing one worker.
Floats were being built by Reed Point’s own crew at the east end of the lot and slid into the water on a wooden rail at high tides. Shortly after this photo was taken, the Carpenter’s Union picketed the site and the pile drivers all walked off. All float construction ceased and the pile drivers went back to work. Reed Point later finished the floats offsite and trucked them in on flat beds. These initial floats and fingers were all replaced with upgraded ones approximately 10 years ago.
Our humble Reed Point office was already built, shown just upland of the Pile Driver. It has not been replaced!
