Steady Progress!

As we wrap up 2025, we’re excited to share the continued momentum of Measure S across the District. Every project is focused on one goal: creating safe, modern, and inspiring learning environments for all students.

This update highlights steady progress on key initiatives, including campus security upgrades, new permanent classrooms for our youngest learners, major improvements at Redondo Union High School, and essential HVAC upgrades for year-round comfort.

Safer Campuses: Technology & Security Enhancements

Measure S is making critical upgrades to technology infrastructure throughout the District to better support teaching, learning, and campus security. The improved infrastructure will provide the stability and capacity needed to effectively support new devices and software for years to come, ensuring reliable performance and a better user experience.  

BUZZ-IN CONTROL SYSTEMS

Lincoln and Parras are the first campuses with buzz-in systems at front entrances, with Adams and Washington currently in progress. All exterior doors will remain locked during school hours and visitors must buzz in for access.

Why This Matters: 

This initiative responds to the Ensuring Safety Proactively Task Force recommendations, enhancing our ability to monitor and control campus entry for a safer environment.

COMMUNICATION UPGRADES

Adams and Washington are currently receiving comprehensive upgrades including new phones, PA systems, bells, security cameras, and wiring infrastructure, set to complete in January 2026.

Why This Matters: 

These upgrades are part of our district-wide effort to modernize safety and communication systems, providing clearer audio announcements, more reliable bells, enhanced video surveillance, and improved network performance.

Next up:

Tulita and Alta Vista, followed by RUHS in Summer 2026 and remaining elementary schools in 2026-27

SAFETY & INSTRUCTIONAL SOFTWARE

Through Measure S, the District has invested in essential tools that support safety and learning, including Singlewire Informacast for emergency notifications, Proficio, Sophos, and Malwarebytes for cybersecurity, Respondus for secure testing, and Enriching Students to help teachers personalize instruction and deliver real-time feedback.

Comfort for Learning: Districtwide HVAC Upgrades

The Board approved $8.4 million for HVAC improvements starting Spring 2026 through Summer 2027:

* Upgrading existing gas-fired HVAC systems to all-electric heat pumps

* New AC for Alta Vista, Lincoln, and Washington libraries, which previously had no air conditioning

* Replacement library HVAC units at Beryl, Birney, Jefferson, and Adams 

* Ninety-four classroom HVAC replacements at Beryl, Birney, Jefferson, Madison, and Tulita

Goal:

Replace all district classroom HVAC units by 2029 through a phased approach.

Bright Foundations: Modern TK & K Spaces Arriving 2027-2028

Aging portable classrooms at Lincoln and Madison Elementary Schools will be removed and replaced with new, permanent modular classrooms. Three will be constructed at both Lincoln and Madison. These modular buildings are high-quality, permanent structures, and not traditional portables.

MADISON KINDER

New permanent buildings will include in-classroom student restrooms and a new playground with student-requested swings. Kindergarten will relocate to the southeast campus, and the current space will be dedicated to transitional kindergarten.

LINCOLN TK

A permanent TK complex is planned north of the CDC building, replacing existing portables and adding in-classroom student restrooms and expanded playground and garden areas. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring/Summer 2027.

RUHS Launches New Era: Innovation & Improved Access/Safety

Exciting changes are ahead at Redondo Union High School. Measure S is enabling multiple transformational projects:

CAREER INNOVATION & DESIGN BUILDING

A new two-story Career Technical Education (CTE) facility, targeted for completion in Fall 2028, will support programs in engineering, aerospace, game design, and graphic arts, with dedicated collaboration spaces including a social staircase, collaborative spaces, and flexible work areas for group work and presentations. The building will replace the current “old Bingo building” on campus, which is located on Diamond Street between the Science Building and Student Services Building.

SEA HAWK BOWL IMPROVEMENTS

Improvements to the Sea Hawk Bowl will address damaged concrete, exposed rebar, and bent benches first, followed by new restrooms and an upgraded sound system. Work is expected to begin in early 2027.

Completed: Safety & Security Improvements

We are pleased to share updates on recently completed projects! 

The height of kinder fences at Beryl, Lincoln, and Madison have increased from five to seven feet. 

Most schools now have new fencing and protective screens, with final sites finishing by early January, weather permitting.
