Meet our President
My name is Dr. April Meras, and I am a family nurse practitioner. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX, and currently reside in Dallas. I graduated from the High School of Health Professions at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center in 1999. I received my BSN in 2004 from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, my MS in 2012 from Texas Womans University, and my DNP from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2022. I have been a Family Nurse Practitioner for 13 years. My nursing background includes inpatient gynecology/oncology surgery at Baylor University Medical Center and inpatient general pediatrics at Childrens Medical Center Dallas. After graduating from NP school, I worked in family practice for 5 years. After leaving family practice, I decided to refocus my career on my first love, pediatrics. For two and a half years, I was the owner and sole provider of a pediatric practice, Kidz Choice Pediatrics, in Dallas. Due to COVID and unforeseen circumstances, I closed my practice in January 2021. I currently work for Parkland at two locations working in pediatric primary care mostly with newborns. I am married with two daughters, ages 5 and 16, and two stepdaughters, ages 21 & 22. I grew up in a blended family, and I am the youngest of 10 children. I love to travel and spend time with family and friends. I also enjoy watching movies and various series. My favorite foods are seafood and Mexican, and my favorite color is red. I am excited as I embark on this new journey as the Greater Texas Chapter of NAPNAP president. Caring for children and their families is a true passion, and I feel blessed to be a pediatric healthcare provider. In this role, I look forward to expanding my knowledge, networking with other pediatric providers, and giving back to our communities as we make life better for children and their families.
