Town Supervisor

Chris Legg

Looking ahead, 2026 will bring old and new. For those old enough or too young to remember the Bicentennial in 1976 celebrating the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The 250th anniversary introduces a new term, the Semi quincentennial.

Jan 1, 2026, starts the new fiscal year. In the 2025 zero-based line by line review of the 2026 budget, the Town Board and department heads carefully examined requirements while finding new efficiencies and revenues that resulted in a 2026 tax levy increase of only $730.41, just over .01% (one hundredth of a percent). In a time of rapidly increasing costs, the Town is exercising good stewardship of taxpayer dollars. This budget is not an arbitrary cutting of services. It supports increased staff personnel costs along with timely equipment and infrastructure maintenance to continue to provide excellent services. The $7.9M Town budget is available on the Town website at the Town Board tab.

As an example, shifting the Transfer Station to free glass recycling rather than paying for single-stream recycling disposal, continuing market rate sales of cardboard and metal, and reutilization by the volunteer Swap Shop reduced disposal costs further in 2025. It helps offset increased personnel costs in 2026. Your separation of items for recycling makes it possible.

Spread Joy this Holiday Season!

As the holiday season approaches, we remember the power of community and the importance of caring for our neighbors. We believe that everyone deserves to experience the comfort and joy of the season.

Last year the Skaneateles Outreach office helped 120 households with holiday cheer. This included families with children and senior citizens, touching the lives of 250 of our neighbors. This was made possible by the generosity of members of our community.

Many families and senior citizens in our community are facing difficult circumstances and with your support we can ensure that the spirit of the Holidays reaches those in need.

Ways to help:

·        Provide gift cards/gas cards or stocking stuffers.

·        Making a financial contribution.

Please note that 100% of your tax-deductible contributions go to programs.

The Town Budget covers administrative costs.

During this season of giving, the board of directors of Skaneateles Ecumenical Food Pantry expresses its immense gratitude for the consistent and generous support of the Food Pantry by the Skaneateles community. Rising food prices affect everyone. We purchase staples to keep our shelves and refrigerator well-stocked, and we face a growing demand for assistance.

Your incredible support makes our work possible.

We especially appreciate the outpouring of food and monetary donations from many community organizations, churches, and individuals throughout these past few months. With your help, we look forward to successfully sustaining this effort in 2026.

Anyela's Vineyards named Conservation Farm of the Year Environmental Steward Award

The Onondaga County Soil and Water District selected Jim and Patti Nocek, the owners of Anyela’s Vineyards, for the 2025 Conservation Farm of the Year Environmental Steward Award for the Skaneateles Lake Watershed. Onondaga County Soil and Water District will present the award later at Anyela’s. The award recognizes their operation for implementing best management practices continually since before their groundbreaking in 2000. Most notable is their management of their 26 acres of trellised vines to control nutrients and surface water on their property within the watershed. They minimize tillage and chemical use. As excellent stewards, they annually host as site in Onondaga County ON Farm Fest and participate in numerous agricultural organizations.
