Athletes may only register for one winter sport. Please note that if an athlete signs up for powerlifting, they are able to also participate in a winter sport, because powerlifting is considered a spring sport and their practices and competition will be held at different times.

Lucas County has a swim program that is designed to be competitive, as they will have the opportunity to compete in events at both the regional and state level. To participate, athletes must be able to swim 25 meters (one length of the pool) independently, without touching the bottom, holding the side, or using a float. Practices will be held on Sundays from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, at St. Francis High School pool. We plan to start in late October.

Please note that the regional meet will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2027 in Oak Harbor and state meet will be held at The Ohio State University on February 19-21.

All basketball registrants 17 and older will need to participate in a screening/tryout before being placed on a team (unless they opt for the Skills Team). This helps our volunteer coaches balance skill levels and divisions to keep games fair and competitive. Once registration is closed, you will be notified of tryout dates and times by email. Please note teams can only have 15 players on a team.

In addition to our teams, we offer a Basketball Skill Development Program that focuses on dribbling, shooting, and passing. They practice once per week on Tuesdays with the goal to learn and improve these skills while having fun. Athletes will have the chance to participate in regional and state-level competitions and compete for medals and recognition in their individual skill events. We encourage you to check out this program if you sign up for it or are not placed on a team after tryouts.

Little Lightning Basketball (athletes 21 and under)

The Little Lightning Team will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 7:30pm at Arlington Elementary beginning late October. Please note that some games will be held on Monday and Wednesdays. Home games will be played at the Horizon School on Sylvania Ave or Proclaim FM off of Angola Rd. in Holland.

Regional and State Tournament

• Regional competition for Skills will be held in Bowling Green on January 9. Athletes must compete at regionals to advance to state.
• The first round of Regionals for the teams will be held January 23-24 in Bowling Green and continue on February 6-7, in Fostoria.
• If the teams win Regionals, they will advance to State Winter Games, which are February 19-21 at The Ohio State University.  

Love to cheer? Join one of our cheer squads! You can even participate in lifting and still cheer on either squad!

• Competitive Cheer: the team will learn a routine by practicing every week on Tuesdays, with a second day of practice to be added in January. You will perform at select Lightning home basketball games and compete during State Winter Games at Ohio State on February 19-21. There are a limited number of spots available. If necessary, we may hold a day to assess everyone after registration is finished.
• Pep Squad: Athletes will have few practices and then will cheer at home Special Olympics basketball games during the season.



Our powerlifting program, a spring sport, will start practice twice per week in November from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. We have new coaches and a gym, as we have moved to D1 Training Toledo, located on Heatherdowns Blvd.

For safety reasons, athletes must be at least 16 years old to participate. We will be limiting the team to 10-15 athletes.
