Winter After-School Activities


During our second trimester, we are offering Yoga, Percussive & Social Dance, Voice & Piano Lessons, Improv, Tinkering Club, True Wonder-based on the book, We're All Wonders, and Chess Club,  please send in an envelope with the appropriate payment marked:  

"Attn: Ms. Jenna / After-School"

Yoga with Ms. Chris (PreK4-3rd Grade)

Taught by Ms . Chris (who is also a certified children's yoga instructor), the class will e ncourage the mind/body connection through yoga play. We will build focus, strength, flexibility, and ba lance through age appropriate yoga postures, imaginative games,  creative movement and yoga s tories. Our classes will conclude with time devoted to quieting the mind and body  through breathing  and guided relaxation
.

Percussive & Social Dance with Ms. Christine
1st-4th grade 

Ms. Christine has been touring with Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble for over 20 years. She brings her love of Percussive and Social dance to students in this after-school dance program. Learn the basics of Clogging, South African Gumboot Dance, Stepping, and Irish as well as simple Squares and Ceilidhs.

Duration: 8 weeks
Classes will meet the following 8 Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm:

Private Piano & Voice Lessons  with Ms. Christine 
Piano: Grades 1st-4th  Voice: Grades 5th-8th

Ms. Christine's Every Note Music Studio will be offering private voice and piano classes at Lucy School. Lessons will be available after school on M/T/W in 30 min blocks. Each 30 min lesson is at a discounted rate of $25. Please contact Ms. Christine for additional information and to schedule.

Improv with Mr. Denny (6th-8th Grade)

Taught by Mr. Denny, a Lucy parent and professional actor,  Improv will help you grow in whatever you decide to do in life. It will help you think, create, innovate, cooperate and respond in new and exciting ways. These are skills that you can take to every aspect of life. In this class we will work on the craft of improvisation through playing improv games, doing scenes and exercises and taking direction. You will be invited to look at different choices you can make and why to make them. You will learn to trust your intuition and instincts and get "out of your mind" to inspire your own creative engine.

Tinkering Club with Ms. Terrie 
(5th-8th Grade)
 
Attention all designers and builders!  Ms. Terrie is offering an after school opportunity for 5th-8th grade students to sharpen their engineering skills and have some fun building and testing their designs.  Join us for Tinkering Club after school Tuesdays.  We will build and design bottle rockets, small scale Rube Goldberg machines, and much more!

True Wonder- What Makes You, Me, and Our World Unique? with Ms. Kanika
(2nd-5th Grade) 

Inspired by R.J. Palacio's picture book
We're All Wonders, participants will create both literary and visual artwork (poetry, personal narratives; as well as acrylic and watercolor paintings) showcasing how their artistic uniqueness can inspire wonder to everyone and everything.

On the last day of our workshop your artist will share their works with family and friends in an art and writing showcase in the Dining Hall of the Farmhouse.

Chess Club with the Silver Knights (K-8th Grade)

Chess club is taught by experienced Silver Knights Chess players and educators using a curriculum developed by National Masters. Each weekly session is a mix of learning and play. Playing chess is a great way to develop a child's critical thinking skills, sportsmanship, and patience - all while having fun! Chess will be held at Lucy School on Tuesdays in the fall.  More information and registration is available by
