November 25, 2020

With the President’s November 16, 2020, announcement indicating that after Thanksgiving through January 10, 2021, employees other than those designated critical and essential will be working remote, we will secure all campus buildings during that period as follows.

Exterior Access

Most University buildings have automatic magnetic locks, which are activated with a William Paterson ID card (notable exceptions include Science Hall East and West, Hamilton Hall and the Alumni House). All buildings will remain locked 24/7 and alarms will only be disabled during normal business hours (typically 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Access to these buildings, with the exception of those noted, between the designated times will only be with a William Paterson ID card.

To accommodate all students who need to go to the Bookstore, the Machuga Student Center will be open during the week of November 30, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For students residing in White and Hillside residence halls, the W Store in Century Hall will be open with limited hours. The Counseling, Health and Wellness Center will be open Monday through Friday during normal business hours but with limited staff. The office of Residence Life will provide resident students with specific information regarding available services and hours of operation.

The University Commons will be open and operating to accommodate critical functions and for dining services, bookstore, and essential hospitality services staff. Students residing on campus during this time will be able to access  the building utilizing  their WP ID. To gain entry to University Commons, there are swipe access points on either side of the Machuga Center. Since these particular doors are not ADA accessible, individuals requiring assistance should contact University Police at 973.720.2300.

All faculty and staff wishing to enter their respective buildings will be required to use their ID card to gain access. Alumni staff should continue to enter Alumni House as they have always done.
Faculty and staff whose ID card does not open a door will be required to submit a help desk ticket at wpunj.edu/helpdesk. In the drop down box, first select request type “Campus Card Services (CBORD) Devices,” then “Location Access Request” and complete the form.

Non-resident students wishing to gain access to any academic building will also be required to submit a help desk ticket at wpunj.edu/helpdesk. In the drop down box, first select request type “Campus Card Services (CBORD) Devices,” then “Location Access Request” and complete the form. Information Technology and the Provost’s Office will review all requests.

Faculty, staff and students requiring access to the Science buildings and Hamilton Hall must contact University Police who will be dispatched to let you into those buildings. Please note, due to a limited number of officers on campus, advance requests are necessary to gain entrance.

Interior Access

During this time, Physical Plant Operations (PPO) will again be instituting the deep cleaning protocol in the buildings. Once PPO has deep cleaned specific areas in a building, the space will be taped shut. To limit the times PPO has to deep clean those spaces please avoid entering those locations. If there is an absolute need to gain access to these limited access spaces, faculty and staff must contact University Police for assistance.

On January 11, 2021, access to the buildings will revert to normal operations.

Sincerely,

Stephen Bolyai
Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance
