Winter Break Update

Hello McKenzie Families,

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Thank you again for all of your support.

Winter Break will start on December 19. The first day of classes will be on January 4.

We are happy to report that most of the cleanup related to smoke damage is complete at the school. We are still working on some tree cleanup in the area. As providers in our area work to restore service, there may still be some connectivity issues. Click here for more details on the service providers and how you can get connected.

We know it has been a tough year for so many of us, and we hope you can welcome in the new year with the hopes of a better 2021.

The opening of our two distance learning locations has gone well, and it has been nice to see your beautiful (masked) faces as you learning with your teachers from a distance.

Van Donations

Thanks to The Hope Project and Kendall Auto, two of the vans we lost in the fire were replaced.

We are so lucky to have amazing partners who continue to support us.

If you have requested transportation to a site, you will receive a call from our transportation coordinator to confirm pick up and drop off times.

If you are transporting your student(s) to the school, please drop them off at the High School building entrance.

From there, they will be screened, taking their temperatures and answering the questions outlined in the Lane County Health Screening document.

Students attending the Holiday Inn Express location are asked to be dropped at the far corner past the covered driveway that leads to the main lobby.

Staff will be located outside to help direct families and students to this location. These students will be screened as mentioned above and directed to their assigned workspace.

Meal Service

If you already receive meals and your student is accessing a site, expect them to be provided at a site. If you do not receive meals and would like for your student(s) to have them at the site, please let us know by contacting Lorinda through email at lorinda.marcy@mckenziesd.org

Meals will be grab and go, and students will be allowed to eat (while distanced) in the gym or pagoda (school) or in the large conference room at the Holiday Inn Express.

Both sites also have access to outside areas for eating.

Relief Centers Open

The relief centers continue to remain open if you need food or essentials.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who continue to staff these centers for our community

Vida Relief Center at McKenzie River Discovery Center

Post Office Onsite

We are the temporary site for the Blue River Post office.

You will find the office behind the high school.

We are glad to be able to support the community that supports us.

9am – 2pm Monday through Friday

COVID Safety Guidelines Over Break

Both sites are following the Oregon Department of Education's guidance in Ready Schools, Safe Learners.

The CDC safety guidelines include required masking, six-feet spacing, frequent hand hygiene, fixed cohort groups and tracking. Your student(s) will need to wear a mask at all times other than while eating.

We are encouraging the students and staff to follow Oregon’s current travel advisory. The Governor is recommending that students or staff who travel out of the state not return to our sites for two weeks from the date of return. Please contact us and we can offer recommendations for your student.
