The Field Institute calendar is full of fun, awe-inspiring classes and programs from now until the end of the year, with more being added each day. From mushroom identification to hiking to nature photography, you're sure to find a class that speaks to you. Because most field classes are still small for Covid safety, they can fill up quickly. Saturday, Nov. 5, 5:00pm - 8:00pm

Celebrate 3 years of full moon hikes! We will gather under the almost-full-moon at the Bear Valley picnic area, across from the Visitor Center, to celebrate community, the lunar cycle, and getting to know the Bear Valley in a different light. 
Thursday, Nov. 10 - Thursday Dec. 1

Photograph some of the seashore's most beautiful beaches under the best tidal conditions during this series of online and in person classes. Includes two guided Saturday field trips and three Tuesday evening Zoom classes (7:00-9:00pm).

Autumn is the perfect time to explore colored pencil techniques with all the beauty of the changing leaf colors, seed pods, gourds and berries. Their unique colors provide the opportunity to practice mixing and layering color.

Welcome to the fascinating world of mushrooms! Learn the main types of mushrooms, their characteristics, common edible forms, and how to forage for them. Then join a group mushroom foray at Point Reyes.

A Forest Bathing walk is a guided slow meander intended to allow for a deep and meaningful connection with the natural world. We will be covering less than a mile of distance and we will mostly be in silence.
Sunday, Nov. 20, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Abbotts Lagoon and Tomales Bay are important habitats for thousands of waterbirds, raptors and shorebirds. Hike through these habitats while observe and identifying waterbirds and raptors as they migrate through!
Saturday, Dec. 10, 9:00am - 3:00pm

In this class we will focus on developing a system for approaching gull identification in an enjoyable manner, then test your new skills!

Explore the mysterious and fascinating world of wild mushrooms in Point Reyes. A class designed for beginner to intermediate mushroom enthusiasts.

Job & Volunteer Opportunities

Join the team running the daily operations of three park stores at Point Reyes. Responsibilities will range from customer service to sales to processing inventory. We're looking for someone reliable, organized, and who enjoys interacting with the public. This position primarily works weekends at the Drakes Beach Park Store.

All gifts up to $20,000 towards our Mapping A Park For All Fund, which supports Youth in Parks programs and conservation work at the Seashore will be matched through the end of the year!
