Two Recent Property Closings

Goose Chase Farm, Plainfield, NH

When Lynn Freeman and Peter Martin bought their Plainfield property in 1988, their neighbors were eager to advocate for its conservation because it sits in one of the region’s largest areas of unbroken forest.

And now, 35 years later, they have donated a conservation easement protecting over 380 acres, fulfilling the hopes of local conservationists and their own commitment to the health of their land and the planet.

Conserving their land was always in their plans. Motivating them to move ahead now is a strong desire to make positive and proactive efforts to benefit the environment at a time when the earth’s climate is changing so rapidly.

Hooper Properties, Cornish, NH

Mark Hooper has donated two conservation easements, adjacent to a conservation easement he donated in 2023, completing his goal of protecting 60 acres that his family has owned since 1835.

This land is located in the historic Cornish Colony area. Mark, who does not live locally, sought to protect the land as he made plans to transition ownership of part of it.

The Cornish Conservation Commission was integral in supporting Mark's endeavor.

Much of the property has been ranked as “Highest Ranked Habitat in New Hampshire” in the 2020 NH Wildlife Action Plan. The easements are located near several other UVLT-conserved lands associated with the Cornish Colony.

Calling all Vermont Residents -Save the Date and Join us for:

VHCC Legislative Day

FEBRUARY 14 | 11:00 AM - 5:00PM

The Vermont Housing and Conservation Coalition (VHCC) Legislative Day is the day for UVLT staff, trustees, and supporters to champion the projects and values supported by Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB) funding and the importance of conservation in general.

Legislators need to hear from YOUVermonters doing the work on the ground—about how VHCB-funded projects are helping solve some of Vermont’s most pressing issues. This is our opportunity to share our good work with lawmakers and share how VHCB dollars are being put to work in communities across Vermont.
