Preparing for Sunday
Light in the Darkness
"Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." - Luke 2:29-32
TO KNOW: Candlemas, a mid-winter celebration of hope and light, is observed on February 2nd. It commemorates the purification of Mary after giving birth, the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple, and Jesus' meeting with Simeon and Anna. Dating from the fourth century, the celebration typically includes Simeon's prayer (Nunc Dimitis, Luke 2:25-35), the blessing of candles, and a procession with candles.Join us at Sunday's 10:00 AM service to add some light to your life with special prayers and illumination!
"God of night and of day,we praise you for the brightness of our sun, for the softer light of the moon and the splendor of the stars, for the fires of earth that bring us light and warmth...By the great and small lights we mark our days and seasons, we brighten the night and bring warmth to our winter, and in these lights we see light: Jesus, whose light we receive in baptism, whose light we carry by day and by night. All praise be yours through Christ, the light of nations, the glory of Israel, for ever and ever. Amen."

Sunday School
Selling Soup and Sharing!

Souper Bowl Sunday is here! Last week we prepared for the big day by reading about God's creation. One way we can share our blessings and be thankful for what God does for us is by helping those who do not have enough to eat.

Sunday School begins at 9:30 AM in the large Sunday School room, for ages 3 and older. We will continue to make Souper Bowl jars to sell after the service and at Bolingbroke during the Chili Cook-Off. Then we will return to working on our newest Old Testament scenes with Legos.

The nursery is also open and Megan will babysit our younger members starting at 9:30 AM. If you have any questions or would like to join us, please contact Ms. Deb.

Dessert will be provided. Connect with other adults when we read the Gospels and follow Jesus from Holy Week through the Resurrection.
Both Christ Church and St. Martins are invited to call, write or talk to Deb Parker if you have suggestions on what book of the Bible or another book you might like to explore when we resume the Adult Discussions after Lent. This is a chance to also propose alternative days or times that fit your schedule.

Vestry Update
Joint Vestry Meeting Report

The two vestries met on Thursday, January 23rd at Bolingbroke Mansion, St. Martin`s Church. The meeting began with our Covenant a prayer. The focus of the meeting was a status report on the progress of the Search Committee.Tonight’s conversation gave both vestries the opportunity to ask Pierce Eckhart and Abby Thomas, the two Committee representatives, questions directly. It was a productive conversation, and our vestries felt affirmed about the direction in which our two churches were headed, and it was clear that there will Be much work to do once a new Rector is called.
