The Nelson Family has one old tradition that Kat has been serving her daughters since they were very young....warm vanilla milk. It's still a favorite they ask for as soon as the weather turns cold. Polar Express Hot Chocolate is a newer tradition. The recipe was found on Pinterest a few years ago...a crowd favorite for all ages!
WARM VANILLA MILK
serves 4
4 CUPS MILK
¼ CUP SUGAR
1 ½ TEASPOON PURE VANILLA EXTRACT
GROUND CINNAMON
Bring milk and sugar to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
Stir in vanilla.
Divide among four mugs
Sprinkle cinnamon on top of each drink
POLAR EXPRESS HOT CHOCOLATE
6 cups milk
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 cups bittersweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Combine milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream, chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and salt together in a large pot over low heat; cook, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted, 30 to 40 minutes.
Sprinkle with candy canes or garnish with candy cane to stir/marshmallows/shaved chocolate to etc. to garnish.
(Peppermint schnapps to make adult drink :)
