Giving Kids the Advantage

RETURN TO HOMEPAGE

Meet Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are the heart of 15-LOVE. From mentoring youth and supporting programs to showing up behind the scenes, their time, talent, and commitment make our work possible.

Because of their dedication, we’re able to expand access to educational and enrichment opportunities for the young people we serve—and strengthen our community along the way.

We are deeply grateful for every volunteer who shares their energy and belief in our mission.

Thank you for being part of the 15-LOVE team!

Volunteering with 15-LOVE this summer has been an incredible experience. The students come in each day full of energy and are excited for the activities ahead. I've enjoyed building relationships with them and seeing the joy on their faces when they learn something new.

How did you hear about 15-LOVE?

I got involved with 15-LOVE as a young girl through the youth tennis program at Prospect Park.

Why did you want to volunteer with 15-LOVE?

I completed the tennis program from 8 to 13 years of age. I then went on to play tennis in high school.

Tell us more about your volunteer experience with15-LOVE? I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with 15-LOVE as a youth. Honestly, I can't believe that I learned to play tennis so well that I made varsity in high school. Along with that, we learned some valuable lessons around sportsmanship.

I still remember my coach, Mr. Rogan, and his humor that cut the competitive edge and focused on learning. He made it fun. I got to learn tennis alongside my cousin and good friend.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the tennis program was still going strong 20+ years later, along with new programs, when I was an adult with my own children. I started both my kids at 4 years of age in the tennis program, then we got involved in the gardening program. It's been great for them as well.

Where do you attend school and what grade are you in?

My children are now 6 and 8 years old. They attend a school in Rensselaer county, but I am fortunate to be able to travel to Albany for camp. Our neighbor joins us too.
