Staying Healthy and Hopeful in 2022
Welcome to 2022! I hope this newsletter finds you well and thriving during the continuing pandemic.
Now, more than ever, is the time to make sure you’re taking good care of yourself. As every parent knows, it’s hard to carve out time for self-care, but if you don’t, it will catch up with you!
Getting enough rest, eating healthy foods, and fitting in vital socialization is just as important for you as it is for your own child. Please make sure you are making yourself a priority as you care for so many others in your network.
We have some wonderful things happening these next few months, in particular, outreach to Florence and Oakridge, and new opportunities for LGBTQ families to connect. Even during a pandemic, Parenting Now is evolving, growing, and serving a broader diversity of families, due to the guidance and support from our community. It’s your help and feedback that makes these things happen and the board and staff at Parenting Now are so deeply grateful for your support! Read on for more about these exciting new programs.

MEET ANA MARIA DUDLEY,
2022 Minalee Saks Champion of Children
Ana Maria Dudley first came to the Family Resource Center in Cottage Grove in 1993. Since then, she has met countless families, enriching their lives with her warmth, grace and spirit.
She has helped families navigate complex medical systems, find local resources such as WIC, food banks, housing, as well as shared her knowledge of child development with parents. For these reasons—and so many others—Ana Maria is our 2022 Minalee Saks’ Champion of Children. She will be honored at Parenting Now’s A Night of Hope Auction & Gala on March 4, 2022. Read more.

Social Support Reduces
Risk of Isolation
Between feedings, diaper changes, holding, swaying, and rocking, it can be easy to get caught up in the demands of parenthood—leaving little time to attend to your own individual needs. It’s not uncommon for new parents to feel sad, anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed during the baby's first year of life. Whether it’s a mild spell of the baby blues or a more serious case of Postpartum Depression (PPD), there are local resources that can help you get back on track. Read more

SQUISHTIVITIES CRAFT:
Snowy Soft Dough
Squishy clay does more than encourage the budding artist. Your child is developing knowledge of how the world works and is becoming proficient with different materials. Her tactile senses are stimulated and refined as you and your child squeeze clay through your fingers, roll it into balls and shape it into creations. To make snowy soft dough,
You Will Need:
• 2 cups flour mixed with,
• 1 cup salt
In a separate container combine:
• 1/3 cup oil
• 1 cup water
Add this mixture to the flour and salt. Now mix and squish until you have soft dough!
|
|
For a fun, wintery effect, try adding glitter or a drop of blue food coloring (mix in well) to make the soft dough look like ice!
Skill Building:
• Fine motor skills
• Eye-hand coordination
• Creativity
• Sensory and tactile experience
• Cause and effect
• Appreciation for the natural sciences

Drawn Together, written by Minh Lê, illustrated by Dan Santat. A boy and his grandfather cross a language and cultural barrier using their shared love of art, storytelling, and fantasy.
