This holiday season we are celebrating the summer of '23 and what we have in store for '24!

Hello Hochelaga Community!

We are so grateful to be wrapping up another amazing year at camp. This year we saw some of our highest numbers of camper enrollment in all of our 104 years of history! We also had our highest number of international staff this summer with nearly half of our seasonal staff coming to us from out of the country.

We were also grateful to have a returning international staff member take on a role as Head of International Staff for the first time in camp's history to best support these amazing counselors.

Why Camp?:

From the campers:

-99% of campers felt empowered by their time at camp

-94% reported feeling understood by their camp community

-99 % reported feeling a sense of belonging at camp

From the staff:

-93% felt empowered by their time at camp

-100% felt they grew as people during their time at camp

-100% felt they had grown as a person due to their time at camp

Celebrating Counselors!

Speaking of wonderful staff, this past summer we were luck enough to have TWO counselors of the year to celebrate: Pax and Kyra! We're so lucky to have these two amazing former campers on staff helping lead staff and set the tone for what it means to be a Hochelaga counselor. This summer Pax stepped up to take on the role of Co-Head of CITs (and absolutely knocked it out of the park!), while Kyra spent their first summer on staff helping support our amazing camp musicals and working with our middle-school aged campers!

New Initiative

We are excited to announce our new partnership with the Vermont Department of for Children and Families, No Bunk Empty, to get kids in foster care to summer camp!

We believe that no bunk should be empty when there are kids that want to experience summer camp! That is why we are partnering with the Vermont Department for Children & Families to remove barriers of access for kids in foster care to come to residential summer camp.

This new initiative is starting with a pilot program here at Camp Hochelaga this summer. We hope to have all kids in state custody who want to come to summer camp in the camp that fits their needs best by 2027!

Your donations make this program possible! If you are interested in supporting or learning more, contact Chelsea chelsea.rendlen@ywcavt.org

Ways to Give

When you donate to Camp Hochelaga, you have the power to choose where your donation goes:

General Donations go towards the continued improvement of the YWCA VT - from new and updated facilities at camp, to funding research for community needs assessments and creating new year-round programs!

Specific Program and Project donations help us get our immediate needs met - like the new washers and dryers so our staff and campers can have clean clothes over the summer, or the new No Bunk Empty initiative!

You're also able to donate directly to our scholarship fund. Our Circle of Girls+ Scholarship helps dozens of campers attend Hochelaga each summer, aiding our efforts to make camp an accessible space to all.

Season of Gratitude

We are so incredibly grateful for all of the ongoing support we receive from our community. From our volunteers who help us set up and take down camp each season; to our alumni who continue to stay engaged and active in promoting the growth of camp; to our campers and seasonal staff who help bring camp to life each summer; to our donors who help sponsor the upkeep of our space and the ability to support campers' attendance each summer through scholarship - we wouldn't be able to keep camp thriving without each of you.

This holiday season we extend our thanks and gratitude to each and every one of you for all that you do to maintain our welcoming and loving camp culture alive. Thank you for being part of our community!

With much 'Laga Love,

The YWCA Vermont Camp Hochelaga Team
