Though the weather outside was sometimes frightful, Greenville was still delightful and busy. Here’s a brief recap of the programs sponsored by the PTA this winter:

Gratitude at Greenville: The Great Scavenger Hunt

In December and January, the Greenville community was connected by a theme of gratitude.  Posters hung in the hallways sent students on a scavenger hunt for things to be thankful for.

This theme continued into the Art Room with Ms. DeLuca, where 1st graders read The Gratitude Jar by Kristin Wiens (read-a-loud here) and created their own colorful gratitude jars.

Black History Month

We celebrated Black History Month by honoring the powerful words of many inspirational Black Americans.

Continue honoring Black History Month by sharing read-a-louds of two wonderful books with your family: My Very Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World, read by author Malcom Mitchell and Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry.

Lunar New Year

2022 is the Year of the Tiger!  We rang in the Lunar New Year with a Chinese Lion Flash Dance, which extended into music class, where all students could try playing the Chinese Tanggu drum - click here to see more pictures and videos.  Thank you to the Edgemont Chinese Association!

6th Grade Writing Workshop with Author Barbara Dee

We welcomed back local, award-winning author, Barbara Dee, for a two-part program supporting the literacy and writing curriculum. Barbara led each 6th grade classroom in a virtual creative writing workshop focused on developing realistic characters. She will return in March to share her latest novel, Violets are Blue, and lead a Q&A session on her books, and the writing and publication process.

BOOK SALE!

We are offering a curated selection of Barbara's books in a limited sale that will run through March 18th. Please click below to view our selection and make a purchase. Barbara will be signing the books, and they will be delivered to the classroom.
