Winter Storm Warning Starting Monday Morning:
Preparations By The BID &
City Snow Regulations

Dear Downtown Property Owners & Managers:

Please be advised that the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning, including Boston and Suffolk County, which will be in effect from 7 am on Monday through 5 am on Tuesday.

Total snow accumulations of 7 - 15 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph at times. Please visit here for the latest NWS forecast.

Travel could be very difficult and hazardous conditions may impact the Monday morning and evening commute.

BID Ambassadors will be pre-treating handicapped ramps within the BID area along with select plaza areas/public spaces that require special attention. As snow accumulates, they will utilize their equipment to maintain ramps and crosswalks, catch basins, Big Belly trash receptacles and trash cans, and fire hydrants (as needed).

The City of Boston has declared a snow emergency, in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Please visit for the City of Boston's listing of resources & regulations during snow events.

Visit for rules regarding shoveling of sidewalks, including the following key ordinance:

  • Property owners must clear sidewalks within three hours of snowfall ending or three hours after sunrise if it snows overnight and must clear a 42-inch path on the sidewalks in front of their property for wheelchairs and strollers.
