I hope you are staying warm in your homes this evening given the considerable snow fall lasting since late last night. In order to keep you updated about service closures and other important information, we are relaying combinations from several city agencies. Please see below.

Mayor de Blasio today issued a travel ban for New York City. The Mayor restricted travel in all cases except emergencies beginning at 2:30 PM today. The latest forecasts anticipate approximately 20 to 25 inches across New York City. 

Snow Accumulation Totals as of 3:23 PM (per NWS):

*           Central Park: 14.7 inches

*           JFK Airport: 14.6 inches

*           LaGuardia Airport: 16.2  inches 

*           Newark Airport: 16.5 inches

 

Temperatures as of 3 PM (per NWS): 

*           Central Park: 27 degrees

*           JFK Airport: 29 degrees 

*           LaGuardia Airport: 28 degrees

 

Wind Speed/Gust & Direction (per NWS):

*          Central Park: Northeast 15 mph. Wind gusts 33 mph.

*          JFK Airport: Northeast 25 mph. Wind gust 36 mph.

*         LaGuardia Airport: Northeast 24 mph. Wind gust 31 mph.

Major Roadway Closures/Traffic Delays (per NYPD TMC and DOT):

*        Travel ban: All none emergency vehicles must be off the road by 2:30 PM

Area Bridge Conditions:

*        Travel ban: All none emergency vehicles must be off the road by 2:30 PM

Subway Delays or Suspensions (per MTA): 

*          NYC Transit will being an orderly shutdown of all elevated and open cut (exterior) portions of the subway system. The last trains to leave terminals will depart at 4:00pm. Due to switch problems at Coney Island-Stillwell Av, N trains are running with delays in both directions.

*         The subway will operate underground only for the remainder of the storm. 

Ferry Delays or Suspensions (per DOT):

*         Seastreak Ferry has suspended service for 1/23/2016

Regional Rail Delays or Suspension: 

*         Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and above ground NYC Subway service will begin an orderly shutdown of service at 4:00pm due to deteriorating weather conditions and concerns for customer and employee safety. Bus 

Disruptions (per MTA):

*        Travel ban: All none emergency vehicles must be off the road by 2:30 PM

Airport Delays (per FAA): 

*         JFK Airport:                  15 minutes, Multiple flight cancelations

*         LaGuardia Airport:         15 minutes, Multiple flight cancelations

*         Newark Airport:             15 minutes, Multiple flight cancelations

 

Snow covered fire hydrants are a potentially dangerous condition that may impede fire fighting operations.  The FDNY is asking property owners to assist in this urgent need to clear snow from fire hydrants in front of or adjacent to their property.
