DEALING WITH INACCURATE FORECASTS

We assume you were aware of the winter storm watch forecast that was posted yesterday morning. Serving our customers with winter storm services has us watching a variety of weather forecasts, and this came out of nowhere. With the forecast of potential sticking snow, we spent all day yesterday preparing for that eventuality as we have to be prepared. Not only did we put our plan together, we put sanders in the backs of trucks, plows on the fronts of trucks. AND, we last minute postponed a planned annual conference where all of our managers were headed to Tacoma this morning. That event was postponed until next month so we could deploy and serve our customers when the snow began to fall overnight last night.

You may also recall the opposite happened last February

Last February 22nd, there was a forecast for snow but minimal accumulations. What resulted turned in to be the second-largest snowstorm in Portland’s history. We had not deployed equipment or lined up Subs to plow, and we're very proud of how we were able to deploy on such short notice and get properties cleared. It was one of our proudest moments and one we never want to repeat. We now always prepare for the worst-case scenario which occasionally has us gearing up and deploying when nothing happens. That was the case this year.

All dressed up with nowhere to go

Well, we got all ready yesterday with nothing to do so we will go back to our normal maintenance work and put our snow toys away.
