ECG Screening Requirements for HS Athletes - Update!

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) recently posted an update regarding the new ECG requirement for high school athletes beginning in 2026. In brief, only incoming 9th grade student athletes or students 10-12 who have not played a sport previously need the ECG, all others are grandfathered in although encouraged to be tested. ECG's performed on or after July 1, 2024, are acceptable. The FAFP is working with its continuing professional development (CPD) committee to develop educational resources for FAFP members to ensure consistency with the International Criteria for Electrocardiographic Interpretation in Athletes as well as the logistics of referrals for abnormal results via Who We Play For. Additionally, the FAFP is working to provide input to the new forms that will be required to document the screenings. Member questions in the meantime can be directed to Jay Millson (jmillson@fafp.org).

FAFP's November Member Spotlight - Dr. Larissa Raymond

I am fortunate that in my current role as associate program director of the Family Medicine Residency at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, I am able to combine these two passions."
