Year in Review ~ 2023

MYS would like to share its appreciation for the coaches, staff, and membership as we head into the new year after wrapping up an eventful 2023. All of the hard work and dedication to the club is so vital as we shift our momentum into the next calendar year. As we reflect on the past year, we believe that there are many reasons to have enormous pride in our accomplishments and that we should all look forward with enthusiasm to this new year at MYS. Below are several outstanding examples of the successes we should celebrate!

2023 Year in Review

  • Team Union for a Cure, led by players Kosette Koons-Perdikis, Rachel Chung, and members of the 2007 Girls ECNL team are named Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student Visionaries of the Year in Washington, D.C.
  • Twenty-nine players committed to playing collegiately.
  • Nawreen Ahmad, Hannah Harms, Carrie Helfrich, Ava Nucci, and Grace Shank are selected as United Soccer Coaches All-Americans.
  • Carrie Helfrich and Nawreen Ahmad called up to the to U.S. Soccer U17 National teams and selected to the ECNL National Selection Game.
  • 2011 Boys player Sean Freson is selected to USYS ODP Interregional Team.
  • 2010 players Amiyah Curry, Pauline Maletz, Bella McLeod, and Kelsey Spearman are invited to the U.S. Soccer Talent ID Center.
  • Matthew Lenert and Kevin Polanco are named to the 1st Team ECNL All Conference.
  • Carrie Helfrich, Calypso Rolly, Nawreen Ahmad, Hannah Harms, Sammie Mitchell, Kira Waller, Jamie Covitz, and Ami Davis are named to the 1st Team ECNL All Conference.
  • Yazan Yaghmmour, Gelsis Guevara, Tommaso Bertolini, and Dominic Chutuape are named to the 2nd Team ECNL All Conference.
  • Mikaela Nowinski, Avery Bracher, and Katia Katsari Hoefer are named to the 2nd Team ECNL All Conference.
  • Dylan McFeeley and Ege Kirgiz are selected to the ECNL All-Regional League Team.
  • Lorelei Keeney-Gomez and Julia Saba are selected to the ECNL All-Regional League Team.
  • 2009 Girls ECNL player Morgan Birdsell is invited to the U.S. Soccer U14 Talent ID Regional Mini-Camp.
  • The Pro23 Men's team are Champions for the 2nd consecutive season remaining unbeaten.
  • Volunteer Trisha Knisely is selected by VYSA as the TOPSoccer Coach of the Year.
  • Kate Hance and Ben Wastler receive the Recreation Coaches Choice Award selected by their peers.
  • MYS launches a bi-weekly podcast with Team Taca, led by Niall Quinn, former footballer for Arsenal, Man City and Sunderland.
  • MYS Fall Festival attracts more than 1000 MYS members!
  • Tim Ryerson joins MYS as Associate Executive Director.
  • Travel Coach Ryan Austin is chosen as a member of the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 Class. 
  • Executive Director Louise Waxler receives the United Soccer Coaches most prestigious award for lifetime service to the game.

Super Y Tryouts Announced

Tryouts for the Summer 2024 Super Y season have been scheduled! MYS and the Majestics are partnering to offer tryouts for Super Y Summer 2024. The coaching staff had a great experience in 2023 working with your players and is excited for 2024! Two tryout weekends are scheduled for the rising U10-U14 Boys and Girls.

Winter TOPSoccer

Register now at no cost, as an Athlete or Buddy, for the Winter TOPSoccer sessions! Sessions begin Friday, January 12 from 5:30-6:30 PM and will be held indoors at the gymnasium at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in McLean. TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a recreational sports program for children and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities offered only through local US Youth Soccer affiliated soccer clubs. TOPSoccer provides people with diverse abilities an opportunity to play soccer in a structured environment that is safe, fun, supportive, and inclusive.

Spring Break Camp 2024

MYS offers a week of extensive player training and development during its Spring Break Camp - March 25-29. Players of all skill levels with birth years 2017-2011 are invited to register for the morning, afternoon, or both sessions! The camp curriculum will consist of age appropriate instruction with players placed into groups of similar age and ability. Players do not have to be participating in a current MYS program to attend. Spring 2024 Recreation Registration OPEN

The MYS Spring 2024 Recreation league will begin the week of April 2, with the first games played on April 6. Registration is open now for all players U3-U19 with Early Bird Rates of $175 for U6-U10 and $165 for U11-U19 through January 31, 2024. Click on the links below for details and to register:

Winter Indoor Recreation Futsal League

MYS is excited to partner with First Touch Futsal for a U7-U10 boys and girls fustal league. Games begin January 6th will be played at The Congressional School in Falls Church on a hardwood surface. This program is for current Recreation players only.

NEW ~ Winter Outdoor Pumpkin League

The Pumpkin League is a new winter soccer program aimed at providing an informal, fun opportunity for players to stay active before the Spring soccer season. The program is a continuation of the Summer Watermelon Cup and is designed to foster player development, enjoyment of the game, and sportsmanship in an informal soccer environment. Games begin on January 7th.

Open to Travel and Recreation players ages U11-U19 ~ REGISTER NOW

Advanced Travel Goalkeeper Training

Sessions begin January 22nd and are for current U9-U15 Travel program goalkeepers and have been designed to address the situations that currently occur during matches. The goalkeepers will be taught and trained in the techniques needed and placed into match-related situations.

Indoor Recreation Skills Development Program

MYS and MV Soccer have partnered to offer an indoor, small group Recreation Skills Development Program for U7-U12 Recreation players. This eight-week co-ed program will focus on player technical skills and development in a FUN and enjoyable environment. Session II begins Sunday, February 11th.
