Warming Center

The Joseph G. Caputo Center will serve as a warming center on Sunday, January 25, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Monday, January 26, from 9:00 AM until closing.

Please note: All programming, activities, and the Aquatic Center are cancelled for Sunday. On Monday, programming and the Aquatic Center will remain closed in the morning and resume at 12:00 PM.

Sidewalk Maintenance & Shoveling

The responsibility for sidewalk safety falls directly on the owner or occupant of each property.

  • The 6-Hour Rule: You must clear snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of your premises within six hours after the snowfall stops.
  • Ice Treatment: If the ice is frozen too hard to remove, you must use sand or salt to provide traction.
  • No Snow in Streets: Village law strictly prohibits shoveling or blowing snow into the public street. This can lead to a summons and is dangerous for Village plows.
  • Corner Properties: If you own a corner lot, you are responsible for clearing the path to the crosswalk and any pedestrian ramps (curb cuts).
  • Don’t park on the street while it’s snowing or being plowed. If you’re in your car, be ready to move it for the plow crews. Otherwise, your car needs to be off the street until the roads are clear.

Snow Preparedness

This is a friendly reminder that when shoveling, you should clear snow away from nearby fire hydrants. Consider being a good neighbor and digging out your neighbor's fire hydrant as well. We do this so that when firefighters are battling a fire to save your home, they are not delayed in hooking up their hoses because they're chipping away at snow and ice.

In the event of a power outage, call 1-800-75-CONED or text "EG" to "UTAGE" to make a report. You can also download the ConEd app on your iPhone or Android smartphone to easily report outages and check on estimated restoration times -- you will need to have your account number handy to register with the app, so be sure to have it on hand to get set up. You can also use these services to report downed wires, which should also be reported to the police department.

Sanitation

Sanitation pick-up for Monday, January 26, 2026, will be picked up as a regular Monday Zone 1 schedule. The balance of the week is also a regular schedule. Click here for 2026 Sanitation & Recycling Information
