The Herrity Report: Your Voice in Fairfax County

January 22, 2026

Winter Weather Information

Fairfax County is forecasted to get its first significant snow of 2026 this weekend, with snowfall likely to total between 3 and 11 inches, arriving Saturday night into Monday morning. Be sure to fill up on gas, fully charge your electronic devices and check on elderly neighbors before and during the snowstorm. Snow could impact the Monday morning commute, schools, and impact power lines throughout the weekend.

Below are details about where to see closures, how to report power outages, and recommendations and resources to use which include important links and phone numbers in the event of emergencies. Please keep this information where you can access it in case of a power outage. Additionally, you can receive up to date emergency alerts at the County's emergency blog.

While the County Government and our office may be closed, we will be monitoring messages and email during snow emergencies.

Recommendations During Inclement Weather

Inclement Weather Recommendations:

  • Be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for at least three days in case roads are blocked and/or there are power outages. Make sure you have at least a three-day supply of food that does not require electricity to prepare and at least a gallon of water for each person for each day.

  • Have a battery-powered and/or hand-crank radio and flashlight extra batteries for emergency information. Listen to local weather forecasts and instructions from county or state officials.

  • It is helpful to clean-up crews that plow our roads if you can park your vehicles in your driveways if you have one. If you must park on the road - park on the side of the road with odd numbered addresses so VDOTS plows can clear most of the road.
