The Impact of Old Man Winter on the Farm
First field planting are scheduled to begin next week!
Brocccoli Plants growing strong in Layngs Greenhouse

With all this cold and temps in the teens this morning, the number one question we are getting is, "How is this long winter affecting the crops?" Farmers are always challenged with Mother Nature's curve balls, but after working with her for 21 years we do our best to "field them". With the help of greenhouses, our starter plants are already growing strong. Despite the many snows, we have just finished trimming the last of our fruit trees to prepare them for bloom in a few weeks. March winds to help the ground dry quickly this time of year and when it does we will start planting potatoes & onions, hopefully next week.  The snow actually helped insulate the strawberries from the deep chills we had this winter and the plants are growing nicely nestled under their winter coat of remay fabric.  Our CSA shares should be right on track by the first week of June if we get the warming predicted next week.

Last year we didn't have much of a winter, so this time last year we were already tilling and planting. Since many items were running a bit early, we had some additional u-pick bonuses for our members in May but this year the snow could affect our early Spring U-Pick kale & lettuce availability.  We do not anticipate an impact for kale & lettuce in CSA boxes.
Welcome Letter Typo- Oops!
For those Mistaeks Happen Members who signed up before March 10th your membership cards went in the mail on Wednesday and many of you have already received them. However, I noticed I accidentally printed the Egg Hunt & Marshmallow Dates incorrect on the letter. Just to confirm the Event Dates are Saturday & Sunday April 5th & 6th.

What happens if I signed up after March 10th!? Don't worry we have a master list of all of our members at check in for those who do not have their membership cards. The next round of membership cards will be printed on April 10th.
