Hello friends,

Our nature preschoolers are enjoying winter at Prairie Woods! ❄️ These smiles say it all as they try out their new kicksleds, turning snowy days into opportunities to move, work together, and explore outdoors.

Not far from the laughter and sled tracks, important restoration work is happening as well.

Last week, 44 acres at Prairie Woods were planted with over 75 species of native prairie grasses and wildflowers. This was done as a winter dormant seeding, with seed spread by tractor and by hand directly onto the snow.

The dark seeds absorbed warmth from the sun and slowly melted their way into the snow, where they’ll rest through winter and grow when spring arrives. New prairie growth will support pollinators, wildlife, and learning for years to come.

We also want to take a moment to remember Mike Bundy, a former program facilitator who recently passed away. Mike’s dedication to teaching helped youth connect with the natural world.

His love of learning and sharing knowledge continues to be part of Prairie Woods.

Especially in a tender time, we’re grateful to share moments of joy, learning, and care for the land with this Prairie Woods community.

With gratitude,

Jennifer Swenson

Executive Director
