City staff will be providing an update to the City Council regarding the January 20 winter storm which brought very heavy rains to Burlingame and impacted several areas.  The presentation will include a general update, an explanation of the City's storm drainage system, and City staff's action plan.

Applications accepted through February 27

Interested in seismically retrofitting your older home and need some financial assistance to do so? Homeowners in the 94010 zip code whose homes were built before 1979 and meet a variety of other criteria may be eligible for grants of up to $3,000 through the State's Earthquake Brace + Bolt program.  The application period opened January 25, and applications are being accepted through February 27.  For more information, check out the program's website.

Update from Saturday's Goal Setting Session

The City Council conducted its annual goal setting session this past weekend where Councilmembers, City staff, and community members discussed strategies for preserving the City's quality of life services for our residents, including the most fiscally responsible manner of addressing our aging infrastructure.  If you missed the meeting, the video will be available on the City's website, www.burlingame.org , within the next few weeks.

Update from the Parks Division

The Parks Division is in the process of planting 107 City trees throughout Burlingame in planter strip areas, tree lawns and Parks.  The species of trees being planted will include Trident Maples, Gingko Bilobas, Crepe Myrtles, Maytens, Red Oaks, Cork Oaks, Australian Willows, Magnolia St. Mary's and Southern, Scarlet Oaks, Red Maples, Raywood Ashes, Chinese Flame trees, Chinese Pistaches, Sycamores, Purple Leaf Plums, Aristocrat Pears and Idaho Locust.  This is the first of three plantings that will happen this year.

Valentines Dance for Active Adults (55+)
Thursday, February 9 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
at the Burlingame Recreation Center
 
Active Adults (age 55+) are invited to our Valentine's Dance on Thursday, February 9 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center.  We will have a DJ, dance lessons, snacks, and refreshments.  This is a free event, but please RSVP to (650) 558-7300.  Thank you to our Burlingame Youth Advisory Committee for hosting this event.  We look forward to celebrating this enchanting holiday with you!
Royal Dance
Saturday, February 11 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Burlingame Recreation Center

Once Upon A Time, in the City of Burlingame, there was a Royal Dance event and all were invited! Get dressed in your best outfit and prepare to dance the night away with your date. Princesses and Princes (ages 5-11) may ask anyone (over 18 years old) to accompany them as their evening companion. A great feast will be provided along with a royal Master of Ceremony and DJ as well as a photo booth! Chaperons with multiple young royals can purchase additional, discounted tickets, if needed! Spring Compost Give Away

Each resident can fill two large garbage cans full of compost. Brought to you by the Burlingame Parks Division along with Recology.   For further information, please contact the Parks Division office at (650) 558-7330.  Don't forget to bring a shovel and two large garbage cans!
