The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company pavilion was buzzing for several days leading up to Hip 1056 stepping before the auctioneers Friday and the striking bay colt from the first crop by Horse of the Year and Breeders' Cup Classic (Grade 1)-winner Flightline did not disappoint.

A four-and-a-half-length winner of a $50,000 starter allowance, optional claiming last out, Florida-bred Won for Lou will try to repeat that effort in the $100,000 John Shear Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Saturday.

This nice filly was bred in Florida by Ross Russell and Solaris Farm in Citra, Florida. She is by Ocala Stud stallion Win Win Win and is the third foal out of the winning Take Charge Indy mare Kiffle, an earner of $154,548 and a half-sister to stakes-placed Mr. Disrespectful. Kiffle has an unnamed 2-year-old colt by Ocala Stud stallion Roadster and an unnamed yearling colt by Gunite, both bred in Florida by Ross Russell.

The Florida Legislature moved $5 million into racetrack purses for Florida-bred racehorses in 2026 – $4 million to Gulfstream Park and $1 million to Tampa Bay Downs.

Some of that state funding was already flowing in prior years. After accounting for preexisting allocations and reserves, the net new investment is $4.8 million at Gulfstream Park and $536,000 at Tampa Bay Downs.
