FTHA Statement on South Florida Racing

The board of Florida Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (FTHA) met to discuss the recent statements made by Keith Brackpool on behalf of the Stronach Group, 1/ST Racing, and Gulfstream Park. All discussions with Gulfstream to date have been premised on continued racing, not shutting down Gulfstream Park with or without decoupling.

Florida-bred Trio Among Oversized Field in Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint

Three accomplished Florida-bred turf sprinters are among an overflow field scheduled for Saturday’s $165,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint, a five-furlong contest for 4-year-olds and older. Among the 12 entries and three on the also-eligible list are Reef Runner, Yes I Am Free and Capture the Lion, who are eligible for the $15,000 Florida-bred bonus presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association. Reef Runner and Yes I Am Free are listed in the body of the race while Capture the Lion is first on the also-eligible list.

Right Wing Runner Takes Second Shot at Stakes Action in Spectacular Bid

Undefeated in his first two starts before finishing off the board in his stakes debut, Florida-bred Right Wing Runner goes after black type again Saturday in the $100,000 Spectacular Bid at Laurel Park. Nine 3-year-olds will go seven furlongs with Right Wing Runner labeled at 12-1 on the morning line.
