Surprising R Morning Brew Favored in Susan's Girl

A winner of her first two starts as the second choice in the betting, Averill Racing LLC’s R Morning Brew has this time been labeled the heavy favorite on the morning line for Saturday’s $200,000 Susan’s Girl, the second leg of the filly division of the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association Florida Sire Stakes. The undefeated filly has been assigned 4-5 odds in the program for the seven-furlong contest in which she will face six other 2-year-old fillies by accredited Florida stallions.

Global Legend Returns to Overnight Competition at Keeneland Saturday

After missing his first stakes victory by a head in his last race, Florida-bred Global Legend makes his next start Saturday in Keeneland’s fourth race, a first condition, $100,000 optional claiming for 2-year-olds at a mile-and-a-sixteenth. Trained by Mark Casse for KEM Stables, Global Legend is the 7-2 third choice on the morning line in the field of seven.

Joyce Named Jockeys and Jeans Person of the Year

Jockeys and Jeans, an all-volunteer group that has raised more than $3.4 million for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, has named Mike Joyce its 2024 Person of Year. He will accept the award and speak about the need to aid disabled former jockeys during Jockeys and Jeans 10th annual event at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Jan. 11.
