Lennilu Narrowly Wins Battle With Finding Strength to Take FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Desert Vixen in Stakes Record Time

BY BROCK SHERIDAN

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL-Lennilu raced just to the outside of Finding Strength through two-and-a-half furlongs then the two fillies remained heads apart to the wire with Lennilu winning in a head-bobbing finish in the 44th running of the $100,000 Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association Florida Sire Stakes Desert Vixen at Gulfstream Park Saturday.

Fourth and Central Gives Trainer Yates, Stallion Cajun Breeze Fourth Dr. Fager Victories

BY BROCK SHERIDAN

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL-Fourth and Central and jockey Marcos Meneses had to fight for the lead at the start with Squire and Trelawny to their inside, but once they got clear with five furlongs to run, they never looked back on the way to a nearly two-length victory in the $100,000 Dr. Fager, the first leg of the male division of the $1.2 million Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association Florida Sire Stakes.

As Catch Can Rallies to Win Old Dominion Oaks

BY MICHAEL COMPTON

Having competed in graded stakes events in Southern California in her last two starts, Florida-bred As Catch Can appreciated the softer company she found Saturday in a contentious renewal of the $250,000 Old Dominion Oaks at Colonial Downs.

Editorial: The Case for Breed-to-Race

BY STEVE KOCH

Does an emphasis on foal numbers put the cart before the horse? The real industry horsepower may not be foal crops-it's racehorse ownership. Limited ownership constrains demand, and therefore long-run supply and prices, of young horses.
