Florida-bred Mrs Worldwide Wins Second Straight Stakes With Sandpiper Score

Mrs Worldwide circled the field around the far turn then wore down front-running Carroll’s Honor with a furlong to run and win her second consecutive added-money test in the $75,000 Sandpiper at Tampa Bay Downs Saturday. Trained by Brian Lynch for Flying Dutchmen Breeding and Racing LLC, Florida-bred Mrs Worldwide was one of six 2-year-old fillies going six furlongs after three fillies scratched.

Florida-bred Lord Eddard Stark Rules H. Allen Jerkens at 60-1

John Rowe’s homebred gelding Lord Eddard Stark shot to the front in the shadow of the wire to catch odds-on favorite Utah Beach and produce an astonishing victory at 60-1 odds in the $108,000 H. Allen Jerkens Handicap at Gulfstream Park Saturday. It was the first career stakes win in 28 starts for the 6-year-old Florida-bred, who defeated eight other 3-year-olds and older over the marathon distance of two miles on the grass.

DECEMBER 7, 2002—Florida-bred Captain Squire, who would go on to win $1.3 million in his career, broke his maiden at Hollywood Park in his second start for trainer Jeff Mullins and owner Jeffrey S. Diener of Sacramento, Calif.
