Florida-bred Nic's Style Draws Off to Win Pumpkin Pie

Florida-bred Nic’s Style pressured St. Benedicts Prep early then drew off in the stretch to win her first stakes victory in the $150,000 Pumpkin Pie during the Belmont at Big A meet Sunday. Seven fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older went seven furlongs with Nic’s Style winning as the heavy 1-2 favorite.

Breeders' Cup Classic Winner Sierra Leone Started at Scanlon Training and Sales at Oak Ridge Training Center

Sierra Leone, winner of the $7 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (Grade 1) at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Saturday, was one of many of the top performers on the World Thoroughbred Championship card with connections to the Ocala/Marion County area as the 3-year-old colt is a graduate of the David Scanlon’s Scanlon Training and Sales located based at the Oak Ridge Training Center in Morriston, Fla.

West Nile Virus Confirmed in Marion County

According to the Equine Disease Communication Center and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, a Paso Fino filly at a private facility in Marion County, Fla., has tested positive for West Nile. According to the EDCC alert, an unknown number of other horses have been exposed at the facility.
