Good Magic Filly Leads Wednesday Action at OBS March with $1.1 Price Tag

Demand for 2-year-old Thoroughbreds remained high Wednesday at Ocala Breeders' Sales as two juveniles left the auction ring with seven-figure price tags and the average price increased again compared to the second day of the March Sale last year. Wednesday’s average price on 141 head sold was $162,543, a 5.8% increase compared to $153,692 on the second day during the 2024 auction. Gross sales were $22,998,500 compared to $23,976,000 from 156 head on the corresponding day last year. The median dropped from $75,000 to $70,000.

Bred in Florida, Bullet Gone Astray is by Gone Astray, whose sire, Dixie Union, won the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational Handicap and Grade 1 Malibu Stakes in 2000. Like his sire, Gone Astray also showed speed over intermediate distances, winning the 2009 Ohio Derby (G2) and 2010 Salvator Mile (G3).

The Jockey Club Releases Data from the Equine Injury Database for 2024

NEWS RELEASE


According to the initial data analysis from the 16th year of reporting to the Equine Injury Database (EID), the rate of fatal injury in 2024 was 1.11 per 1,000 starts, the lowest rate since the EID began in 2009.
