When the young Florida sire Girvin left Ocala Stud and headed north to Kentucky for the 2023 breeding season, his relocation provided yet more evidence of the Sunshine State’s strong position as a launchpad for stallion breeding careers. With this year’s total Florida breeder and stallion awards increasing 52% to more than $8 million—including stallion awards at 20% of gross purse for Florida black-type stakes winners, up to $20,000 per race—Florida Thoroughbred industry leaders say there’s even more for both mare and stallion owners to love about the state.

Florida-breds All That Magic, Ms. Bucchero Seek Upset in Sensible Lady Turf Dash

All That Magic will face a familiar group of rivals while Ms. Bucchero makes her first start on grass Saturday in the $100,000 Sensible Lady Turf Dash at Laurel Park. The two Florida-breds are among a full field of 10 fillies and mares plus three on the also eligible list entered for the six-furlong turf contest.

Marion County Ag Watch Assists Farms

The Agricultural Unit of the Marion County Sheriff's Office focuses on establishing and maintaining MCSO's AG Watch program, a program where farm and ranch owners can register their properties to assist the Sheriff's Office in returning their at-large livestock in the case of fence failure or other incidents.

Not This Time Florida-bred Sells for $350,000

Prospecting Time, a Florida-bred colt by Not This Time, garnered a final bid of $350,000 Wednesday during the third day of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Centennial Farms signed the sales ticket on Hip 447, a dark bay or brown colt out of the winning Mineshaft mare Ib Prospecting, a half-sister to stakes-winning, graded stakes-producer Frolic’s Revenge and stakes-producer Fashionable Frolic. Prospecting Time was bred in Florida by Wind Hill Farm.
