Wired for Style Workshop Sewers Say...

I enjoyed and learned from the class. It was fun to take my fitted blouse pattern and make a new style blouse. My first Tunic with the wired collar. I will definitely make another one. I made the cuff fuller to go with the daisy print on this Tunic.

Thanks for all the instruction and encouragement, Janet.

Hi Janet,

This was my mockup, but I thought it turned out great. I liked seeing how easy it is to make changes. I am a visual person, so it helped to see the changes to the pattern and see different options.

Thanks,

Marcie Kinyon

Dear Janet,

I wanted to send along my finished results and thank you very much for your wonderful class. I am so thankful to be able to learn from your expertise and obvious pursuit of excellence in sewing garments.

I am practicing sewing without pins and find your topstitching a needle’s width away makes garments look so much more professional! Also, interfacing both sides of the collar and cuffs made a noticeable difference. I will never be a pattern designer but was able to make my special collar and cuffs by following your instructions.

Thank you again, Janet, for your thoroughness, patience, and obvious love of teaching us to sew!

Liz

Janet,

I’m sure you thought I had fallen off the face of the earth, but I assure you I have now completed my Wired for Style shirt. I had never made a shirt before the class and had to work on my Sloper to get started. Once that was completed, I stitched the Shirt Maker’s Express #227. As I was doing all those prerequisites, I watched your video classes, and to tell the truth I wasn’t sure I would be able to complete the project successfully. I was certainly uncomfortable many days and wondered what I had gotten myself into. However, I am finished and pleased with my tunic (with a few small hiccups) and it’s fit.

Thank you for the encouragement, wonderful sewing tips and demonstrations. I am now more confident about shirt construction and look forward to many more.

Thank you, Janet, for doing this class.

The format was well-paced, and the presentation of the material was clear. Any questions were quickly answered, and I think you kept everyone engaged and on track. Having the videos to review when I wanted to be sure of the method of operation was a great relief and eliminated any stress about not remembering quite how to do a particular step. I highly recommend this class for anyone interested in broadening their sewing skills and learning more efficient ways to sew. Learning to add embellishments to hem finishes and the buttonhole appliques was another treat. I'm excited to see what other classes you add.

BTW, I am still waiting for USPS snail mail to deliver the collar shaper and should be sending pictures soon after that. Thanks again for an excellent program!

The Wired for Style Tunic was interesting and several new techniques for me included drafting a collar from a collar stand and adding a shaping wire to a collar. I am still not sure about the shaping wire for future shirts and not sure I have ever seen a shirt collar with a shaping wire so all new. With practice it is possible to sew without pins or at least very few. I enjoyed the class.

I would recommend the class to anyone who wants to take shirt making to a higher level with the methods Janet teaches. You are bound to learn something new even if you have been sewing for decades, and the techniques aren’t just for shirt making. The skills carry over to improve all aspects of garment sewing as well.

Thank you,

Cyndy Monier
