Kevin Hermening, a former chair of the Marathon County Republican Party and a financial advisor, announced plans to run for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District in 2026 in an interview with WisPolitics. While he intends to formally launch his campaign after the holidays, Mr. Hermening signaled an aggressive start, saying “when I announce, it's going to be evident that I’m running at 100 miles an hour.” Mr. Hermening is a Marine Corps Veteran who was held hostage during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis while serving at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.
The race for the heavily Republican district, currently represented by Congressman Tom Tiffany, who is running for governor, has already drawn multiple GOP contenders. Announced candidates include Michael Alfonso, son-in-law of former Congressman and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy; Jessi Ebben, a previous candidate for Wisconsin’s 3rd district; and businessman Paul Wassgren.
On the Democratic side, former state Representative Fred Clark, Chris Armstrong of New Richmond, and Ginger Murray of New Lisbon have entered the race.
