State Assembly and Senate

New ads in competitive state Senate races

Candidates for state Senate seats have been launching ads. Below is an overview of the new ads:


8th SD:

  • State Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville) released a pair of ads:
  • Stroebel’s first ad claims employees at Jodi Habush Sinykin’s family business were “maimed under her watch” after the company had 15 safety violations. Watch the ad here.
  • The other ad features his daughter reading to her son, saying that “Grandpa Duey Stroebel delivers results for Wisconsin families, but it’s really just the beginning.” Watch the ad here.


  • Jodie Habush Sinykin (D-Whitefish Bay) released two ads:
  • One ad says Sen. Stroebel claims tax breaks intended for farmers and that he is a “multimillionaire politician who will do everything he can to avoid paying his taxes.” Watch the ad here.
  • The second ad claims Sen. Stroebel has an “extreme record on women” citing his votes to “uphold the 1849 abortion ban” and to “end IVF to prevent access to contraception and to deny funding for postpartum care.” Watch the ad here.


14th SD:

  • State Sen. Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) launched two ads:
  • Ballweg talks about her family business in the first ad and how she fought for police and fire funding, helped small businesses get the permits they need, and brought “both sides together to make sure that our kids can read and write.” Watch the ad here.
  • Her other ad says Sarah Keyeski supports raising revenue limits to allow property taxes to “skyrocket unchecked.” Watch the ad here.


  • Sarah Keyeski (D-Lodi) also released a pair of ads:
  • In one ad, Keyeski talks about her husband’s throat cancer diagnosis and says she is running “because when someone you love needs medical care, the last thing you should have to worry about is how to pay for it.” Watch the ad here.
  • Her other ad says Sen. Ballweg voted to ban abortions, birth control, and to deny rape victims emergency contraception. Watch the ad here.


  • Wisconsin Principles launched an ad targeting Sarah Keyeski. The ad shows her in a “woke genius T-shirt” and claims her supporters want to defund the police, give voting rights to “illegals” and make it easier for felons to vote. Watch the ad here.


18th SD:

  • Anthony Phillips (R-Appleton), a cancer doctor, launched an ad featuring a woman who says Dr. Phillips saved her life and is “the kind of person that you want, fighting for the people of the state of Wisconsin.” Watch the ad here.


30th SD:

  • Jamie Wall’s (D- Green Bay) ad refers to Jim Rafter as a “big taxer” who “doesn’t pay his own,” claiming he raised taxes three times as village president while giving himself a raise and failing to pay taxes. Watch the ad here.


  • Jim Rafter (R-Allouez) released an ad where he says he is running for state Senate because “safer communities, lowering costs and educating our kids shouldn't be partisan, and that's what I do.” Watch the ad here.


32nd SD:

  • Trempealeau County Supervisor Stacey Klein (R-Trempealeau) is up with an ad saying she is running for the state Senate to lower the cost of living, cut taxes, and get Madison back to working as a team. Watch the ad here.


New ads in competitive state Assembly races

94th AD

  • State Rep. Steve Doyle (D-Onalaska) and his opponent Ryan Huebsch (R-Onalaska) are launching ads in the race for the 94th AD. Rep. Doyle launched a new ad to highlight his bipartisan accomplishments. He said he is no stranger to a hard day’s work and getting a job done. Rep. Doyle says, “I can reach across the aisle and pass good bills just as easily as I can walk across the barnyard with my shovel.” Watch the ad here.GOP candidate Ryan Huebsch released an ad claiming Rep. Doyle is “playing political games” by voting “against bipartisan tax relief to help you with rising costs.”

21st AD, 26th AD and 61st AD

  • The Republican State Leadership Committee released three new digital ads in three Assembly districts: the 21st AD, 26th AD, and the 61st AD, where incumbent Republican State Representatives Jessie Rodriguez (21st AD), Amy Binsfeld (26th AD) and Bob Donovan (61st AD) are running for re-election. The ads are part of an effort to target top districts in Wisconsin and other states. The three ads say the same thing: Wisconsin families are struggling, but “out of touch liberals couldn’t care less.” Watch the 61st AD ad here.

U.S. President

Trump visits Juneau, WI

Former President Donald Trump visited Juneau, Wisconsin on Sunday, the fourth stop in Wisconsin in eight days. During his rally, he criticized the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene and said the White House has not done anything and Vice President Kamala Harris is incompetent. He also commented on her vow to lower costs for Americans, “Why the hell didn’t she do it four years ago, all right?”

Quinnipiac University


  • Quinnipiac University’s poll found former President Donald Trump ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris. Their poll reported 48% of likely Wisconsin voters support former President Trump, and 46% support Vice President Harris. Third-party candidates Green Jill Stein and Libertarian Chase Oliver both were at 1%.


  • In a head-to-head match-up, former President Trump was ahead of Vice President Harris 49-47.


  • Quinnipiac University polled 1,073 likely voters between October 3-7 using live calls over landlines and cell phones. The margin of error was +/- 3 percentage points.



Research Co.


  • Research Co. released a new poll with Vice President Harris ahead of former President Trump. The poll found 47% of likely voters supported Vice President Harris and 45% supported former President Trump; 1% backed another candidate, and 7% were undecided.


  • Research Co. interviewed 450 likely voters October 5-7 using online surveys. The margin of error is +/- 4.6 percentage points.



Emerson College


  • The latest Emerson College poll found, in a head-to-head matchup, 49% of likely voters backed former President Trump, and 49% backed Vice President Harris.


  • Emerson College polled 1,000 likely voters between October 5-8 by contacting respondents’ cell phones via text to direct them to a website to complete the survey and landlines by autodial. The margin of error was +/- 3 percentage points.

U.S. Senate

Cook Political Report Moves WI Senate Race to “Toss-Up”

The Cook Political Report on Tuesday switched their rating of the Wisconsin US Senate race from “Lead D” to “Toss Up.” In announcing their change they noted their polling shows, “Wisconsin to be the closest Senate race of the five battlegrounds polled.” Check out this Wisconsin Public Radio story for reaction from both campaigns and details on the change.

Quinnipiac University


  • Quinnipiac University found 50% of likely voters supported U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D) while 46% supported GOP candidate Eric Hovde. They also found 99% of Democratic respondents supported Sen. Baldwin, and 91% of Republicans for Hovde.


  • Quinnipiac University polled 1,073 likely voters between October 3-7 using live calls over landlines and cell phones. The margin of error was +/- 3 percentage points.



Research Co.


  • The Research Co. poll found 47% of likely voters supported Senator Baldwin and 43% backed GOP candidate Eric Hovde. 1% supported someone else, and 9% were undecided.


  • Research Co. interviewed 450 likely voters from October 5-7 using online surveys. The margin of error is +/- 4.6 percentage points.



Emerson College



  • Emerson College’s poll found the same result to Quinnipiac University’s poll: the split 50-46 in Sen. Baldwin’s favor.


  • Emerson College polled 1,000 likely voters between October 5-8 by contacting respondents’ cell phones via text to direct them to a website to complete the survey and landlines by autodial. The margin of error was +/- 3 percentage points.



Baldwin releases new ad

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) launched a new ad with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin targeting her Republican opponent on abortion. The ad includes a clip of Eric Hovde (R) saying he is “totally opposed to abortion,” and says Hovde winning the seat will allow for “more extremist abortion judges on the courts.”

Hovde releases new ad

GOP U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde’s campaign released a new ad accusing U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) of never telling the truth. The ads followed an ad from Sen. Baldwin claiming Eric Hovde wants to raise the retirement age for Social Security. The couple in the ad say that claim is “malarkey”.

Senate Leadership Fund is up with a new ad

The Senate Leadership Fund released a new ad targeting U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) for transgender issues. The ad says she supports women’s domestic violence shelters having to admit biological men who identify as women and efforts to allow sex change surgeries for children. The ad closes, “Tammy Baldwin, she's changed and she's just too extreme for Wisconsin.”

Fix Washington PAC releases new TV ad

Fix Washington PAC launched a new TV ad focusing on U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin’s (D) transgender policies. The ad says Sen. Baldwin voted in favor of boys competing in girls’ sports and co-sponsored a bill for women to share locker rooms with biological men. The ad closes, “Tammy Baldwin has endangered Wisconsin families.”

3rd CD Race

House Majority PAC launches new TV ad

The House Majority PAC released a TV ad knocking U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Prairie du Chien) for his abortion policies. The ad features Dr. Jill McMullen who says her patients trust her with their medical decisions, not their congressman. She closes the spot, “Your personal medical decisions belong to you, not him, and Derrick Van Orden doesn’t belong in Congress.”

Vote Vets releases new ad

Vote Vets released a new ad targets U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Prairie du Chien) for being at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The ad features a U.S. Navy veteran saying it makes him “sick” to know Rep. Van Orden “participated in January 6th,” and lied about it. “As rioters attacked it, he dishonored our country. Derrick Van Orden doesn’t belong in Congress,” he says.

Federal Updates

Biden visits Milwaukee

President Joe Biden visited Milwaukee this week to announce $43 million for drinking water upgrades and lead pipe replacements in Wisconsin. The additional funds are included in $2.6 billion of federal funding from President Biden’s “Investing in America agenda.” The funding requires 49% to be provided to disadvantaged communities as grant funding or principal forgiveness that does not have to be repaid. President Biden said, “Studies show communities of color have been the hardest hit. One study showed Black children are at least two times more likely to have elevated levels of lead in their blood than children of other racial groups. We have an obligation to make things right.” He also announced the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will require water systems in the U.S. to replace lead service lines within 10 years.
