Marquette University Law School released an October poll this Wednesday. Below, please find the methodology of the poll as released by the Law School in their press release:


About the Marquette Law School Poll


The poll interviewed 846 registered Wisconsin voters between October 15-22, 2025. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points for the full sample.


The sample size for Republican primary voters is 406, with a margin of error of +/- 6.4 percentage points. The sample size for Democratic primary voters is 378, with a margin of error of +/- 6.9 percentage points.


The partisan makeup of the sample is 36% Republican, 32% Democratic and 33% independent. The interviews were conducted online with 723 respondents and with 123 by telephone using live interviewers.

President Donald Trump


President Donald Trump Job Approval -7%

  • Approve 46% (Was 47% in June poll)

The MU Law School Poll found that 46% of registered voters approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job as president, and 53% disapprove of the way he is handling his job, a net -7% in job approval.

President Trump is viewed favorability by 44% of registered voters having a favorable opinion of him and 54% having an unfavorable opinion of him, a net -10% favorability. His net favorability is 2 points worse than the June poll, which found that 45% of registered voters had a favorable opinion of the President and 53% had an unfavorable opinion, a net -8% favorability.


Among voters who identified as Democrats, President Trump is viewed favorably by 0% and unfavorably by 100%. Independents were 29% favorable and 67% unfavorable, while Republicans were 88% favorable and 10% unfavorable.

Senator Tammy Baldwin Favorability -2%

44% of registered voters have a favorable opinion of Democratic US Senator Tammy Baldwin and 46% have an unfavorable opinion of her. Sen. Baldwin’s net favorability increased between the June poll and October poll by 1 percentage-point.


About 88% of Democrats said they had a favorable opinion of Sen. Baldwin, compared to 40% of Independents and 5% of Republicans.


About 4% of Democrats said they had an unfavorable opinion of Sen. Baldwin, compared to 40% of Independents and 86% of Republicans.

Senator Ron Johnson

37% of registered voters have a favorable opinion of Republican US Senator Ron Johnson and 44% have an unfavorable opinion of him.


About 71% of Republicans said they had a favorable opinion of Sen. Johnson, compared to 20% of Independents and 5% of Democrats.


About 12% of Republicans had an unfavorable opinion of Sen. Johnson, compared to 50% of Independents and 79% of Democrats.

State Politics

Governor Tony Evers

48% of registered voters have a favorable opinion of Governor Evers and 43% have an unfavorable opinion of him. Evers’ net favorability increased 7 percentage-points between June and now, going from -2% to +5%.


88% of Democrats and leaning Democrats said they had a favorable opinion of Evers, compared to 49% of independents and 11% of Republicans and leaning Republicans.


81% of Republicans and leaning Republicans said they had an unfavorable opinion of Evers, compared to 38% of independents and 4% of Democrats and leaning Democrats.

Governor Tony Evers’ job approval has improved with 50% of registered voters saying they approve of the job Governor Evers is doing and 45% saying they disapprove (+5% net approval). This is up from the June survey when 48% said they approved and 46% disapproved of the job Gov. Evers was doing (a net +2% approval).


83% of Democrats and leaning Democrats said they approved of Evers, compared to 54% of Independents and 18% of Republicans and leaning Republicans.


78% of Republicans and leaning Republicans said they disapproved of Evers, compared to 38% of Independents and 11% of Democrats and leaning Democrats.

The Legislature

39% of registered voters approve of the job the state Legislature is doing and 50% disapprove. The Legislature’s net job approval is -11%.

The State Supreme Court

45% of registered voters approve of the job the State Supreme Court is doing and 39% disapprove (+6% net approval).

State Issues

Right Direction-Wrong Track:


When asked “do you feel things in Wisconsin are generally going in the right direction, or do you feel things have gotten off on the wrong track? 41% of registered voters said Wisconsin is going in the “right direction” and 57% said it is on the “wrong track.”


A majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents agreed the state is on the “wrong track”:

  • Republican: 35% right direction | 64% wrong track
  • Democrat: 48% right direction | 49% wrong track
  • Independent: 42% right direction | 58% wrong track


In the poll from June 2025, 43% said that Wisconsin was going in the right direction and 55% said it was on the wrong track. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, 61% said it was going in the right direction and 30% said it was on the wrong track.

Policy Issues

Most important issue


Respondents were asked to identify the issue that matters most to them right now. Inflation and the cost of living ranks as the most important issue with 27% of registered voters saying it matters most to them followed by illegal immigration and border security at 16%, and health insurance at 14%. 

The top two issues that Republicans view as most important are illegal immigration and border security (31%) and inflation and the cost of living (23%). Democrats, on the other hand, say the most important issues are inflation and the cost of living (32%) and health insurance (18%). Meanwhile, Independents agree with Democrats that the most important issue is inflation and the cost of living (27%) while their second most important issue is gun violence (16%).
