USCCB AND JFI Action Alert to End Family Separation at the Border
Since October 2017, over 700 children at the U.S. and Mexican border have been separated from their parents and rendered "unaccompanied," including over 100 children under the age of four. On May 4, 2018, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that it will refer all individuals who cross the border without authorization for criminal prosecution, including adult members of family units. Such a decision could lead to many more separated families.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and its Justice for Immigrants Campaign (JFI) are urging Catholics to contact their Congressional representatives and ask that they protect immigrant children and families seeking safety and shelter from violence by keeping these families together.

Save the Date: Catholics at the Capitol, April 30, 2019
Every two years, the Wisconsin Catholic Conference (WCC) joins several Catholic organizations in hosting Catholics at the Capitol.  Hundreds of Catholics from around the state come to Madison for this day of formation and legislative advocacy.  Catholics at the Capitol 2019 will take place at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

The WCC invites everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to pray with fellow Catholics, learn about issues related to Catholic social teaching, and visit with legislators and policy makers in the State Capitol.  The 2019 event will celebrate both the 50th Anniversary of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference and 20 years of hosting Catholics at the Capitol.

Please mark your calendars now and "save the date" for Catholics at the Capitol 2019.  Registration will be available on the WCC's website, starting this winter.

Capitol Update is a periodic e-mail on legislative issues from the Wisconsin Catholic Conference.
