WCC Supports Heal Without Harm Bill
On November 14, the WCC testified in support of  Assembly Bill 550 (Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc), one part of the Heal Without Harm Initiative, which provides for final disposition of stillborn children, facilitates organ and tissue donations from stillbirths, and authorizes a study of potential public blood and tissue banks in Wisconsin.  The Assembly Health Committee took no further action on the bill. 
 
Assembly Passes Bills Supported by WCC
Senate Bill 300  (Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine) creates a crime for a person over the age of 18 who solicit s a sexually e xplicit photograph, recording, or other representation from a person who is under the age of 18.   Under current law, there is no penalty for such solicitation.  The bill now goes to the Governor.  Assembly Bill 300 ,   which provides information about mandatory pupil examinations and Assembly Bill 304 , which a llow s a pupil's parent or guardian to opt out of certain statewide examinations , are both authored by (Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt, R-Fond du Lac) .  The WCC testified in support of AB 304 and for information on AB 300.  Assembly Bill 501  ( Rep. Michael Rohrkaste, R-Neenah ) creates a FoodShare healthy eating incentive pilot program, which the WCC supported.  The last three bills now go to the Senate. 
 
Interagency Council on Homelessness Enacted into Law
Governor Walker today signed Assembly Bill 234, establishing an Interagency Council on Homelessness, into law as 2017 Wisconsin Act 74 The Council will be responsible for establishing and periodically reviewing a  statewide policy for preventing and ending homelessness.  The WCC registered in support of the bill.
 
Floor Periods End for 2017
The last legislative floor session of 2017 took place on November 9.  While some committees will hold hearings later this month, much of the Legislature's work will slow until the new year.  Floor sessions are scheduled to resume on January 16, 2018.  Until then, the Capitol Update will be issued as the need arises.
