WCC Supports Compensating the Wrongfully Imprisoned
The WCC submitted
testimony
in support of Senate Bill 322 (Sen. Van Wangaard, R-Racine) and Assembly Bill 460 (Rep. Dale Kooyenga, R-Brookfield) at public hearings on October 16 before the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety and the Assembly Committee on State Affairs and Government Operations, respectively. The bills would increase the amount of compensation given to innocent individuals who are wrongfully imprisoned by the State of Wisconsin, from a maximum of $25,000 to a maximum of $1 million. They would also provide health care benefits for up to 10 years and transitional services. No further action was taken on either bill by the two committees.
