WCC Auxiliary Board Member Mahanth Joishy wins national biodiesel award
Congratulations to our Auxiliary Board Member Mahanth Joishy, Superintendent of our member the City of Madison Fleet Service, on his Inspiration Award at the National Biodiesel Board's National Biodiesel Conference & Expo on Jan. 20 in Las Vegas. According to the NBB, under Mahanth's leadership, diesel vehicles - from fire trucks to parks department mowers to the all-important snowplows - now run on up to a 20% biodiesel blend (B20) most of the year. Mahanth's leadership and passion will continue to inspire other cities and fleets to expand their use of biodiesel fuel. Learn more
Dane County ranked among world's top local governments for climate action
When it comes to efforts to combat climate change, WCC member Dane County is among the top local governments in the world, according to one recent assessment. The CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) this year included the county on its “A list“ of 95 local governments leading in environmental transparency and action.
To receive the nonprofit organization’s “A” rating, local governments must have “ambitious but realistic” emissions reduction and renewable energy goals as well as climate risk assessments and plans for tackling climate hazards. The county was among the top 10% of the 965 local governments scored by CDP in 2021. But with a combined population of about 108 million people, those top cities and counties represent barely 1% of the world’s population. Read the full story in the Wisconsin State Journal
GUEST COMMENTARY: 2022 poised to be a transformative year for EVs
We all could use a little something to look forward to in 2022. When it comes to electric vehicle adoption and advancement, there is much to come this year that stands to benefit the nation and the state in many ways. The administrations at the state and federal levels as well as public utilities laid much of the groundwork in 2021 for the work to be done in this capacity in 2022 and beyond. On Sept. 22, Ameren announced a memorandum of cooperation between utilities pledging their commitment to build a network of Midwest EV charging stations across 11 states, including Wisconsin, by the end of 2022. The agreement includes Alliant Energy, We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service. Read Lorrie Lisek's monthly column in Kenosha News & other Lee Enterprises newspapers across Wisconsin.

Featured Fuel: Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a renewable, biodegradable fuel that can be manufactured domestically from vegetable oils, animal fats or recycled restaurant grease. It is a cleaner-burning replacement for petroleum diesel fuel. Biodiesel is a liquid fuel often referred to as B100 or neat biodiesel in its pure, unblended form. Like petroleum diesel, biodiesel is used to fuel compression-ignition engines, which run on petroleum diesel. Learn more on our Website
