WCC Board Member Scott Hanstedt: No need for consortia to take the leap into alternative fuels alone
You’ve decided that integrating clean, alternative fuel within your fleet makes sense. Now – you’re sifting through the “where to fuel” dilemma, likely penciling out several options and configurations to see what makes the most financial sense. Many large fleets enlist the help of a fueling provider that can help ease the up-front financial burden of a new station build. These fueling providers take on capital expenditures that are later passed back to fleets though a per-gallon charge throughout the fueling contract term. Commentary: Summer heat a good reminder of need for fuel and energy conservation
Whether you look to Memorial Day, the summer solstice or the end of the school year as your official start of summer, the weather is clearly indicating the season is underway. Many of us are as eager as ever to get outdoors and get a little fresh air. The beginning of summer also means the start of air quality action season and with it, the need to take into consideration how we all consume fuel and energy to ensure the air is as clean as possible. Energy Department releases request for information on electric vehicle grid integration
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), and DOE’s Office of Electricity (OE) on June 15 announced a request for information (RFI) seeking feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on issues related to integrating electric vehicles (EVs) with the grid. Electrification is a key part of our strategy to decarbonize the transportation sector. As the EV market continues to grow, it is important to examine the potential impact on grid reliability and resiliency as a result of that integration and to ensure we achieve our goal of a carbon-free electricity sector by 2035. Featured Fuel: Hydrogen
Hydrogen (H2) is a potentially emission-free alternative fuel that can be produced using domestic resources. Although not widely used as a transportation fuel, government and industry researchers are working on the advancement of clean economical and safe hydrogen production and fuel-cell electric vehicles. Hydrogen is locked up in enormous quantities in water (H2O), hydrocarbons (such as methane, CH4) and other organic matter. Efficiently producing hydrogen from these compounds is one of the challenges of using hydrogen as a fuel. Learn more on our Website
