Awards presented at

Transportation Conference & Annual Meeting

Wisconsin Clean Cities recently honored the top sustainable transportation leaders in Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Clean Cities Transportation Conference & Annual Meeting.

“It's rewarding to see Wisconsin Clean Cities members demonstrate their commitment to sustainability through the use of clean transportation fuels, advanced vehicle technologies and energy-saving strategies." Wisconsin Clean Cities Executive Director Lorrie Lisek said. "We applaud their efforts as they support local jobs and our economy, while providing improved air quality and increased use of domestic energy resources.”

Forward Fleet Award winners, honored for the amount of petroleum displaced through the use of clean fuels and sustainable transportation technologies were:

2nd Place - Michels of Brownsville

3rd Place- Contract Transport Services

of Green Bay

4th Place - Time Transport, Inc. of Franksville

Biden-Harris Administration Announces $1.5 Billion Available through the 2023 RAISE Grant Program

Popular RAISE Discretionary Grant Program helps communities build transportation projects that have significant local or regional impact and improve safety and equity.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has published a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for $1.5 billion in grant funding through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) discretionary grant program for 2023. The popular program helps communities around the country carry out projects with significant local or regional impact.

RAISE discretionary grants help project sponsors at the State and local levels, including municipalities, Tribal governments, counties, and others complete critical freight and passenger transportation infrastructure projects. The eligibility requirements of RAISE allow project sponsors to obtain funding for projects that are harder to support through other U.S. DOT grant programs.

The Average Annual Price Difference Between Regular and Premium Gasoline was 68 Cents per Gallon in 2021

When adjusted to constant 2021 dollars, the average annual price difference between regular and premium gasoline remained between 27 and 33 cents per gallon from 1995 to 2012. Following that period, the average price difference began to increase sharply, peaking at 70 cents per gallon in 2020 and dropping slightly to 68 cents per gallon by 2021. The average price difference between midgrade and regular gasoline followed a similar trend but the difference in price was much less, peaking at 27 cents per gallon in 2019.

Biden-Harris Administration Announces $750 Million To Accelerate Clean Hydrogen Technologies

Funding Will Advance Electrolysis Technology, Drive Down Clean Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Costs, Provide Long-term Support for Hydrogen Hubs and Other Industry Deployments

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden-Harris Administration, through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced its intent to issue $750 million in funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to dramatically reduce the cost of clean-hydrogen technologies.

The funding is a crucial component of the Administration’s comprehensive approach to accelerating the widespread use of clean hydrogen and will play a vital role in supporting commercial-scale hydrogen deployment. Produced with net-zero carbon emissions, clean hydrogen is a key pillar in the emerging clean energy economy and will be essential for achieving the President’s goal of a 100% clean electrical grid by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Featured Technology: Hydrogen

Hydrogen (H2) is a potentially emission-free alternative fuel that can be produced using domestic resources. Although not widely used as a transportation fuel, government and industry researchers are working on the advancement of clean economical and safe hydrogen production and fuel-cell electric vehicles.

Hydrogen is locked up in enormous quantities in water (H2O), hydrocarbons (such as methane, CH4) and other organic matter. Efficiently producing hydrogen from these compounds is one of the challenges of using hydrogen as a fuel.

Currently, steam reforming of methane (natural gas) accounts for the majority of the hydrogen produced in the U.S. Almost all of the hydrogen produced domestically each year is used for refining petroleum, treating metals, producing fertilizer and procession foods. Hydrogen has been used for space flight since the 1950s.
