Here’s what you need to know about Annual Meeting 2023; registration discount offer good through May 7
Still need a reason to sign up to attend the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Conference? Here’s one more.

Our worship leaders will be Nashville-based Andra Moran and Christopher Grundy, professor of worship and preaching and dean of the chapel at Eden Theological Seminary.
Annual Meeting will be held June 9-11 at Green Lake Conference Center. Register today to claim the discounted rate, which is good through May 7.
Andra, who has worked with the Conference before, is a songwriter, singer, author, worship designer and freelance touring musician in a variety of settings. Her music can be found in congregational resources including songbooks, hymnals and online curriculum. In addition to her work in concert and commissioned music, Andra is a consultant in worship design, modern liturgical music and ministry in churches and conferences across the country. She is regularly engaged as a clinician and workshop leader, teaching songwriting, worship design and creative expression. Currently, Andra sings and writes full time, and works part time on the staff of Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville as creative director and worship pastor. To learn more about Andra, check out her website.
Christopher, a UCC pastor, is a leader in progressive Christian worship music, which draws from sources as diverse as folk, R&B and a cappella chant, and incorporates new, evocative images, emerging theologies, and expansive language. For the last two decades Christopher has been writing and playing for national, regional, and local church events, as well as at colleges, coffee houses, and benefit concerts. Learn more about Christopher at his website.
And don’t forget about our keynoter, the Rev. Dr. Sarah B. Drummond, founding dean of Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School. Her talk, “Sharing Leadership Into the Future,” will explore how the UCC model of leadership will play out in uncertain times for the church.
What about heading to Green Lake a day early, on Thursday, June 10? That’s when Matt Miofsky, senior pastor of the Gathering United Methodist Church in St. Louis, will lead an Intensive Workshop titled “Leading Through Transitional Times.” Matt is the author of “Let Go: Leaning Into the Future Without Fear.” His teaching acknowledges the difficulty we have grappling with high-velocity change and uses a biblical framework that leads to seeing change not as problem but as an opportunity to live into a hopeful future. Workshop participants will receive a copy of Matt’s book. Important to note: Separate registration is required for the Intensive Workshop. Register now for Matt’s workshop.

Liturgy marks ‘new season’ for Wisconsin Conference, Daycholah
The staffs of the Wisconsin Conference and United Church Camps Inc.’s Daycholah Center celebrated the new relationship between the two organizations during a liturgy of Welcome and Celebration on April 25 at Daycholah.

Acknowledging “the beginning of a new season” for the Conference and Daycholah Center, Amanda Edwards, Daycholah managing director, said, “In all seasons, God is a God of new beginnings and new creations.” The liturgy took place in Ley Chapel at Daycholah. The Conference staff moved into new offices at Daycholah earlier in April.

“God of Love, you are with us in every transition and change,” said the concluding prayer. “As we enter into this new era with excitement and even some anxiety, we recall your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love. . . . We thank you for the experiences that have brought us to this moment. We thank you for the work of others
that gives breadth and depth to our own work. Be with us as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting one another.”
UCC pastor spotlighted by Waukesha newspaper
Pastor Jim Langreder, who serves First Congregational UCC churches in Hartland and Genesee, was featured in late April in an article in the Freeman, the newspaper serving Waukesha County. A licensed minister, Jim is in the final stages of preparing for ordination. The Freeman article highlighted his commitment to spreading a message of inclusivity.

"What I really want is to create a safe place where people can come and worship, but also a place where we can ask questions and grow in community and relationships with one another," Jim told the newspaper. "Then taking that into the community, because it’s so important that we be the church in the community. Whether that’s through serving meals or just finding out what the community needs."

Youth@Synod
Youth@Synod
June 30-July 4
Indianapolis

This year’s youth@synod program will allow middle- and high school-aged youths to take a deeper dive into the issue of homelessness. We have partnered with the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless to offer youths hands on opportunities to learn about the root causes of homelessness, hear the real stories of individuals who have experienced housing insecurity at different levels and take a closer look at justice vs. charity models they can engage with once they return home. It is our hope that each youth experiences something that is life and faith changing for them and sparks a movement the end homelessness, one area at a time.

In addition to the sessions around homelessness, we will offer several workshops led by national staff that in some way relate to homelessness myths and realities. There will be time to meet with each of our elected officers and informal gatherings to just unwind.

This year’s program has been strategically designed to leave time and space for youth to explore the other offerings of General Synod and have downtime.

If you have any questions, please visit the general synod youth page. Feel free to reach out to Rev. Trayce Potter.

WISE Conference study responses sought
As we begin Mental Health Awareness Month, we would like to remind our churches that at this June’s Annual Meeting, we are hopeful that delegates will have the opportunity to vote on whether the Wisconsin Conference UCC will be designated a WISE (Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, Engaged) Conference for Mental Health. We are excited that almost 40 Wisconsin Conference congregations are engaged in the process of becoming WISE congregations. But in order for delegates to vote on the issue of the Conference becoming WISE, we need responses from at least 64 of our congregations to say they engaged in discussion about the WISE Resolution that is being considered by the Conference. The discussion can be with any group in the congregation. The congregation does not need to take a position on the issue of the Conference becoming a WISE Conference or make a decision to engage in the process themselves, but merely need to discuss the issue of the Conference becoming WISE.

Response forms will be accepted through June 5. Please contact Lisa Hart if you have questions.

Invitation to join a forest retreat
This summer Middleton Community Church ( will be hosting a Forest Retreat at Camp Balsams, our congregation's summer camp in the north woods. This will be an adult contemplative retreat rooted in the practice of forest bathing to promote physical, mental, and spiritual health. While stays at Camp Balsams are usually reserved for MCC members, this retreat is open to the general public and we'd love to have others from the Wisconsin Conference UCC churches join us.
Space is limited for the Aug. 18-20 retreat, and pre-registration is due by May 14th. Contact pastor Zayna Thomley with inquiries.
Old pulpit free to a good home
Pastor Bryan Sirchio acknowledged that his email to Conference Minister Franz Rigert was a bit out of the ordinary.

“I have a strange request of sorts,” he wrote. “McFarland UCC has a beautiful (Oak I think) large pulpit that we do not use and have decided to get rid of. We are wondering if there are any churches in the conference who might want it. They can have it for free, but we're just asking that they come and get it. We'd help them put it in a truck to haul away.” He wondered: Is there a way to share this information with the Conference?

Consider the information shared. For details, and to arrange pulpit pickup, email Bryan.
Beta testers sought
Our database has changed and the Church Life app is no longer available. We are working on figuring out how to have people in the Conference access the same information that was available in Church Life. If you would like to be part of a group to help test the new system, please email Nola Risse-Connolly.
